    Re: GDT:SDSU vs. Denver

I didn't see a story about the Jacks' victory over the Denver women in today's Argus Leader. Oversight or snub? Normally the paper provides good coverage, at least of home games.

Terry was there. Can't believe he wouldn't have written a story.

There is a story on the Argus Leader online page, but not in the paper. I was wondering just like the rest of you. I did note that it had a 9:26 a.m. time listed for its placement, so not sure if they (not Terry) missed it in making up the paper, or if something happened with Terry in regards to posting the story. I know the Argus has slimmed down its staff numbers and don't know if this might have caused any problems.

I see that a game story by Terry was posted online today (Saturday). The story is not in the paper, though.
PS - The Argus Leader has been going through structural changes in its newsroom. It sure wouldn't hurt to remind managers there of the popularity of stories about SDSU sports teams, including women's basketball.

The story is basically the edited transcript of the post game interviews that were available last night through the TV twitter account for the Argus. They did not have any interview with the Denver coach or players.

In all fairness to TV, he has been in a crisis mode with Kailey again. Her condition has improved to the point where she could return home, but I am sure this has impacted the no story part too. Shoot, we all know that SDSU won by 40, what more do we need to know?

Gabby is currently in the 5th year of her window , and would have to apply for a hardship waiver. But AJ seemed to indicate tonight that she would get it if requested.
Her hardship case would probably be in 5 yrs at school, she's only been healthy enough to compete in three, not the four everyone else gets who are fortunate enough to avoid the injury bug. That is, if she sits out the rest of this season.

Who's blaming Terry? I'm not. He does a good job. I suspect it was others' decision or maybe an oversight that there wasn't a score or short story about the SDSU game included in the paper. (There was a short story about the USD women's game.) And no, not everyone knew that SDSU won by 31. Certainly not anyone who looked in the paper for the score. The Argus Leader should be flattered that SDSU fans value its coverage. Again, I think now is a good time to remind news managers that SDSU coverage is appreciated and missed when it's not there.

In my mind, oversight. Lots of sports news! AL deserves a pass.

Agree, we should Just be happy we have Terry for a beat writer and not Mick. Mick doesn't strike me as a ball of fire like Terry does. I've visited Mick's live talk, and basically it was just him, in his defense. Terry's very conscientious of doing his job and has an excellent work ethic, almost a work-aholic. Family medical situations trump everything ,of course. Just my opinion.

Terry and Mick are both excellent reporters. I don't think they're the issue. The real issue is how their sports beats fit into shifting newsroom priorities. With that I'll shut up on the topic. Go, Jacks. Beat the Bison.

flipping radio dials (a few months ago), came across wcco's sunday sportshow with dave mona and sid hartman. sid was mentioning there has always been "the talk" of newspapers physically going by the wayside, but, he said this is the first time the head of star tribune held a meeting and told them so (in relation to star tribune). believe sid added he told them it would take a couple years though. nothing earth-shattering here, i just happen to think of that story when i saw mitchellrabbit's post. btw, pretty sure it was early fall when i heard sid spill that info.

Seems to me the news media would welcome going "paperless", as long as they could sustain their current or even increase their subscriptions. Lot less costs, wouldn't have to buy expensive ink, paper, wouldn't have to hire as much labor for delivery, maintaing machinery, etc. Maybe reporters and the ones who survive will actually get paid better. That would be my wish.
