If Guebert is half as good as advertised, this has to be the best overall set of guards SDSU has ever had - probably by far. The question is how well they compensate for the loss of Clarin and (especially) Waytashek.

It is another freshman class that will respond well. It would be unusual as of late to not see some major contributions from the new women. Young and Miller ought to be a handful for most teams to contain without looking at the potential of the youth and experience on this team. I expect the challenging OOC games to bring the team up to speed quick.

I have to give AJ all the credit in the world, and the complete coaching staff in general, for developing his players to reach their full potential. He gives them challenges to keep them motivated to elevate their game, but at the same time, doesn't mess up their confidence by being overly critical if they mess up once in awhile. That's hard to do when the emphasis is on winning all the time, that puts real pressure on player development.AJ seems to have mastered how to be demanding and demand excellence ,yet still let players develop without destroying their confidence.By the time our players are juniors , seniors, some even sooner, they are playing at the high level we have come to expect.

Having Young gives some versatility with the line-ups. Against teams that have a lot of size she probably plays the 3. Against smaller teams she can move down to the 4 and AJ can go with 3 guards. To me , the key is if Flaata and Mieras can provide meaningful minutes backing up Ober and Thompson.

I would have liked to see the Arkansas game being aired as well. It's going to be pretty cool to see Jimmy Dykes at Frost.

anyone else find AJ's comments on Gabby a bit interesting? that she will have an impact in the locker room and in the huddle (paraphrasing). very possible reading too much into that statement, but, raised my eyebrow a little.

It has the appearance of expecting some leadership for the team. This will be the 6th year in the SDSU WBB program for Gabby. She should know the coaches and the expectations such as Chloe referring to defense. What did you read into the article?

get that, but, just found it a little odd he didn't mention anything about her play/experience that she brings to the court. like i said, maybe reading a little bit too much into his comments (or non-comment). i never did hear about what kind of injury she had/has except that it was related to the knee---if it was same knee or the other knee, whatever. anyone know how she is doing in practice?

There was nothing more to it than he is pleased (and always says this) when the senior leadership takes a strong role in leading the team. Some do that very well, some are quieter. The last time Gabby had a chance to provide that personal leadership was two years ago as a junior. Sitting as a senior last year, she could do what she could from the bench, but it isn't the same. I think AJ is pleased with how that is working out.

Not unless they are in mail today. Several have said no tickets for them either. Mine will show up day after Brookings tickets arrive.
