I believe Laurie was the "top" assistant before she retired from coaching. I'm not sure she was "Assistant Head Coach" but she was definately the Recruiting Coordinator.

6/11/14 AJ tweet "By the end of the day our entire 2014-2015 roster will be on campus for the summer. Looking forward to beginning a new season together."

        Re: Next year's team

Since it's slow, thought I'd mull over redshirting some incomming freshmen.
The bad part is we've already got four incomming freshmen for 2015-16,a couple more would make that freshmen class huge.Do we want to put that many eggs in one basket? That would be a whole lot to graduate at one time.We graduate five after this season,we'll see how hard it will be to replace five veteran players.

Is practicing with the team as good as acquiring actual game experience? Will they get quicker, stonger ,smarter, acclimated to Div 1 basketball faster by redshirting or playing a limited number of minutes in games?I personally think diving right in and getting your feet wet is the best, but it could turn out to be wasteful if the player can't benefit from it enough.

I guess I'm intrigued with this teams composition as a bunch of saavy veterans mixed with athletic newcommers, especially after how well last years freshmen panned out.

The thing is they are really good, and will no doubt help out with depth this year also.Player development and managing minutes with a large roster is challenging but AJ and staff have proven to be good at it.Tough decision to be made.I suspect they may have decided already.

in my book, no experience like actual game experience. i'm not so sure aj won't have a good idea about roster plans till schedule gets closer. love gabby's "d", but, i think she is in for some big competition to keep her starting position. she may very well keep her starting position, but, also see reduction in minutes played.

The point has been thin for a number of years. It also is a tough position to keep a quality player. Gabby has been a quality player. If she could cut some of her 24 minutes a game, that might be a plus for end of game needs in a close game. Gabby's experience will be a huge asset. The new talent is always welcome and needed(see last year), but it may be a bit premature to send Gabby to the pasture for her senior year. The numbers she has chalked up on defense will also make it difficult to idle her since that defense will be half of the playing minutes.

AJ's got a lot of talent and only so many minutes. There is too much talent to let sit on the bench.I trust AJ will manage the roster as well as can be expected, and still win games we should and maybe one or two we're the underdog. He's a master at managing, developing, and utilizing players to get the best result possible.

                Re: Next year's team

I count nine returning players that saw time last year plus:

                - Miller
-Flaata (who should be ready to go after a redshirt year)
-Alexander (3-star recruit and MN Miss Basketball finalist)
-Thompson (Another MN Miss BB finalist)
                -Severyn

Even if you redshirt two of the freshmen you appear to have more depth than ever - and that's saying something.

Is this just all speculation or has there been an announcement on redshirts?

beg to differ---don't believe i was putting gabby "out to pasture". i just don't think it's a stretch to say she is gonna have strong competition for that point position on her senior year---and that's a very good thing.

With all the PG depth the one person who might have troubles finding playing time is Chloe Cornemann. Gabby will get her minutes. She is one of the best defenders in the Summit and makes spectacular plays even though she does turn the ball over at times. She knows how to run a team though.

Is all the speculation about Gabby's minutes being cut because people think Miller is going to play the point ? I see Miller and Young splitting time at the 2 guard with Alexander and Chloe competing for backup minutes behind Gabby. I don't think AJ would be bringing in two point guards the caliber of Alexander this year and Guebert next year if he was planning on Miller at the point. And , especially with Guebert's mother being her coach , I can't believe she would have committed here unless they were told that she would not be competing with Miller for the same position for three years.

                            Point well taken,I agree.
The main thing is,we'll have 14 players who can really play the game. That's a good thing.
We'll have vets who might have to relinquish some time,if the game's going well ,for the development of the youngsters.A little competition never hurts either.I think AJ and staff will do their best to manage playing time so that all can develop and get better as a team. It'll be fun to watch the process of the team becoming a cohesive unit.We start putting the puzzle together in our first exhibition game.Looking forward to a fun and exciting season.

I think you are right. There's no need to have Miller at the point with all the others capable of playing there. She can slash away from the 2-guard spot.

                                Re: Next year's team

Only had two double digit scorers last year,Waytashek and Paluch, both got around 25 min a game. They were tops in m/gm .We only had four players with over 20 min a game, two are graduated and Waytashek and Boever were the other two.

Everyone scores for the Jackrabbits, and everyone gets opportunity's to score. I think Megan Stuart is one of the most productive scorers on the team, for the minutes she gets (10 min/gm).

Gabbys main job isn't to be top scorer, she's a facilitator. She can pass really well, shoots a three once in awhile and gets an easy lay up on the dribble drive when she sees an opening. She plays defense and is always a threat to score, that keeps the defense honest.I'd be surprised if she doesn't start.
