Waytashek and Davis are similar. That's maybe a toss up considering waytashek has a year to go. I guess they way I see it if you put those top five against any of our D-1 teams I like those legends over all. Needless to say we have been spoiled by um.
Strop should not be in this conversation. No way, no how. Good player, nowhere near one of the greatest.

How about McDonald, the older sister. She should receive some recognition. Her younger sister, now that's a different story.

Such "top-player lists" are fun to discuss but as I think is obvious to everyone, each contributor is influenced almost entirely by what they were fortunate to observe. If there was a way to take the top players from year team over the entire course of SDSU women's basketball, I'd be willing to bet Pat Dobratz makes the team. I saw her play a few times and she was a great athlete. The style of the game when she played is quite different from today's game BUT I'm confident she could conform to today's game and prove she's one of the best.

Here's the opening paragraph about Dobratz on the SD Sports Hall of Fame website:
Sioux Falls 1970 Lincoln High grad. 1974 South Dakota State grad.Dobratz was a trailblazer as a player and coach. At Lincoln High, when virtually no girls sports existed, Dobratz played on intramural teams. At SDSU, she became a multi-talented standout, competing in tennis, volleyball and basketball. Dobratz led SDSU to four consecutive state Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women championships in basketball (1971-74) and to three regional playoff appearances in volleyball. A 5-foot-10 forward, she scored 1,334 points during her Jackrabbit career, and still holds the SDSU record for highest career scoring average (18.8). In 1972, she averaged 22.1 points a game (still No. 3 on the SDSU list), leading SDSU to the national AIAW tournament. After that season, she was invited to try out for the World University Games.

Thanks for posting this as you get older, you find yourself thinking about the past. I missed the start of WBB at SDSU, but I recall watching the 1977 Illinois State Women's tournament, and even the refs got things screwed up. The whole tourney was a real joke to watch, but look how far we have come. We now have a center whose father played at SDSU and she no doubt has learned a great deal about the game from Dear Old Dad, and most of it probably in the hayloft of their dairy farm near Glencoe Minnesota. I think Clarissa Ober will be one of the top five by the time she has finished.

I agree and I didn't include her. I was pointing out just by being a D-1 player makes you better then others who played when we were D-2.

However, I do think Vogel, Schlagel, Pater, Warkentien, and Davis are in a league of their own.
Agree 100% with you on Maria. She didn't have gaudy stats in any one particular area , but she was a complete player who worked her tail off every minute she was in the game. I had the chance to watch her play for 8 years , and she gave her all every game she played. Those early Summit winning teams wouldn't have done it without her.
