58-55 SDSU, under a minute left in the game. Jacks at the line shooting two.

SDSU 63, IUPUI 57. Final. Ugly, ugly game, but a win.

A win is a win, however you get it.I'll take it and have a chance to clean up the ugliness later.

That's one more win than we managed against IUPUI last year. They were picked to finish second in the Summit (and had looked pretty good so far) so this one is definitely a big one.

Those offensive boards we picked up on FT in the last five minutes were huge.

I've always thought rebounding and controling the ball makes all the difference the last few minutes in a tight game, especially when the scoring is hard to get.And being aggressive on offense to draw big foul shots.

The defense from both teams was very tough. We sent the Jags to the line way too many times. We had 8 free throws to their 21 or so late in the game. We had a few more late due to the Jags wanting to get the ball. The jags are going full speed on defense all the time. This team is determined on defense. The Jackrabbits defense was tough for them as well. The Jackrabbits missed way too many layups or bunnies in close. Mariah seems to be throwing the ball up without looking at the rim. There were many good things tonight against a decent IUPUI team. Ober had some good post moves, Heiser shot well from the 3 pt line, Clarin & Strop rebounded well, Ober and Clarin had some blocks, and Paluch had 4 assists. Waytashek broke out some late, but she draws a bunch of defensive attention. The freshmen played solid. It was ugly, but it was a defensive struggle the entire game. The Jackrabbits took the Jags deep into the clock many times. It ends a 3 game losing skid.

Boever,Heiser and Strop were keys to the win, although the guards need to cut down on the turnovers against the press. And Clarin needs to learn to play without fouling - I don't think she played more than 4 or 5 minutes in the second half while picking up 3 fouls. She can't seem to grasp the concept that you can't play out of control when in foul trouble.

Has Parkinson ever gave a post game interview?I don't recall him ever giving an interview, especially after a loss.I get the sense he's very resentful of our success, way more than any of the other Summit coaches.Maybe it's because of his "someday they're going to lose the Tournament Championship, and the seniors are going to feel awful about it " line from a few years back.I thought that was a very odd comment for a coach to make, who generally don't let their true feelings come out that blatently.

These women you mentioned are some of the leaders that AJ referred in postgame comments. Strop had 1 assist, but it was a slick one in the post to Ober for a score in crunch time when the Jags were coming after us. 4 minutes was the clock for Mariah. She does get a bit out of control with her effort and tonight was not a good game overall for her. Her energy level gets too fast for the body. In regards to the turnovers against the press, it appeared the guard play would pick up the dribble waiting for the trap without a pass ready to go further upcourt.

Got to pass sooner, can't wait to be trapped, and then try to pass...they have to work on that....other players have to give the player being trapped someone for her to pass to ....they have to recognize the press ....then Hustle....not stand around, that doesn't do any good.Maybe have two stay back and bring the ball up,so they don't have a two on one trap situation.

Good win,now they (IUPUI) have to worry about getting swept for the year,a little more pressure.

I feel more comfortable with Paulch and Heiser bringing up the ball during a press than i do with Boever. It seems to me that Gabby tenses up when she gets pressure on her in the back court.

Ober had some good post moves last night. She's gonna be a really good, possibly great, player for us.

The one thing we seem to be missing is a "go to" player. We have a balanced attack, but no one that we can count on if we need a bucket in crunch time. Waytashek is our star, but she was invisible for much of the game last night.

Good win last night. IUPUI plays hard. They are gonna be tough on the road and a tough out in the Summit League Tourney.
