Re: Free Throws
I can attribute the disparity in free throws to we are much more accustomed to the way Summit league ref's call fouls. You watch a few highlight clips, and you can just see how incredulous (sp?) the looks are on some of the opposition players faces as the whistle sounds on every drive to the hoop, some clearly not fouls. We have become smarter in how we play with Summit officiating is all. There are a lot of "automatic" fouls called in the Summit league, that other teams aren't aware of.It can hurt us as we play in the NCAA though, like last year,we don't play aggressive enough and play a little timidly. The "new" stricter rules also help,as we are already accustomed to touch fouls.I'm also sure we will be at a disadvantage playing our next three games on the road, where our opposition will have the "heads up" on the way their games are called.Teams learn from their officiating crews and apply that knowlege to their advantage, every team does it.It's up to the refs to call fouls,we have to live with their decision, regardless of our own opinions .JMOLast edited by jackdaniel; 12-19-2013, 01:17 AM.

Anyway, Nebraska had the home court advantage on free throws 37-9.
College basketball, shoot 15% better from the field on the road, or lose.

Re: Free Throws
Often times, there are more fouls at the end of a game if it is somewhat close and the team that is behind intends to foul. Also, the last couple of games, the defense was getting tired and slower feet cause more reaching. The NIU game had 9 more free throws in the second half which many were at the end. CMU had 4 more fouls and shot 19 fewer free throws. If it was a case of home cooking, we should not see so many charges at the CMU game. Also, the charges are non shooting calls. Penn St had 7 more fouls and 13 fewer free throws and the Jackrabbits only shot 67% to their 80%. On the road at Green Bay we had 3 fewer fouls and 8 more free throws and only shot 55% FT. I agree that we are getting fewer fouls, but it may have to do with fresh legs and coaching. Some teams get to the line more often(Nate Wolters??).Best to remember these are kids and they are doing everything they can to entertain us, be scholars, and all in all be great humans.
