    Re: GDT SDSU vs. BYU

I saw a lot of times where we were beaten by one-half to one step. That half to one step resulted in a lot of turnovers and a lot of points for the opponents, thus, the blowout. Once the Jackrabbits get used to each other and the schemes they are playing, I think they will close that step and will end up in far better circumstances on the scoreboard.

I don't know how many blocks BYU had , but it was disappointing to see our outside players getting stuffed on jump shots as well as when they tried to penetrate. And , what was up with the BYU coach still having starters in a 30 point game with 3 minutes to go ?

Just saying. IUPUI is close, they beat our ass twice last year.

I thought we'd jump all over this team as much as they struggled in their exhibitions, but they played much more aggressivly and seemed to want it more in front of a good crowd. If we ever jump on someone for a big lead in the rest of our games, this is a good example of not letting up and bringing the victory home.If we learn that, the loss will not have been for nothing.

BYU has way more talent than IUPUI or anyone in the Summit. It's a good thing the Jacks have some time to get their feet under them before they have to take on the likes of Stanford and Notre Dame.

We could not get Hamson out of shot blocking position.I believe she didn't wonder too far away from the basket .We shot well from beyond the perimeter. We were in a half court game the whole time, not good when a team has a 6'8" player in the paint you can't shoot over or around. We handled Georgetowns tall players better last year it seemed.Wonder if Eide,Lingle and Dietel will be missed for awhile till we get it clicking again.

                They had 10 blocks.

Jacks did make 11 threes on 23 attempts , but were 6 for 39 (15%) on their two point shots.

Have to shoot better inside the arc. Clearly dominated by a team that was much better than SDSU today. Got stomped.

We went right at Hamson way too much...that's too much height difference to go right at a 6'8" player...unless you're Shoni Shimmel going at Griner, she had a slick move she put on her, plus a little luck of the bounce.

Like Megans block in the Summit championship that came out of nowhere.

Am i wrong in thinking that if you cannot beat Summit teams by 20-25 pts,as they are now,or BYU ,Gonzaga, UWGB etc by 15 points like ND,Stanford,UK,Tenn most certainly would, we probably will get beat pretty bad by these top 10 teams.
Granted,we may be much , much better later, but only if we can learn to handle the athletes these teams have better.

Creighton will improve a lot playing night out and night in against better teams on a consistant basis,or they will have to get used to being bottom feeders, which i don't see them doing.

I could see that in SC in the NCAA's how much better they were at playing high intensity basketball for a full 40 min.,like they are used to in the tough SEC. We seem to stick with it for the first 15 min or so,then start fading, usually at the start of our first scoring drought.

The 2008-2009 team was very ,very consistant scoring, and did beat all the Summit teams pretty good.Parity in the Summit means your an avg team or worse in a typical BCS conference.Even though we were 14-2 in the Summit,we were not beating them by 20-25 pts a game,so, to me we are only slightly better than they are...that's probably not good enough to do real well in the NCAA tournament,....as we haven't done very well since the very first two or three times.I will believe we can do better in the NCAA Tournament when we can play good enough to dominate the Summit again without question.Unless we can do this,it's possible we could win a game in the NCAA Tournament, but not very likely.Sorry,i'm always fighting the pessimism demons in me.

Yes talent wise they would not lose a game in the Summit, but the big post people are the problem for the Jacks. Cullen Ober daughter did a great job for being a true freshman. She is tough, but not big enough to handle a Hamson. We need to find some big ladies.

It's going to take some time for this team to develop an inside presence. For the first time since the Megan Vogel days , we don't return any experienced post players like Boever ,Sunnarborg , Lingle or Dietel who have logged significant minutes down low going into the season. Players like Clarin ,Stuart and Ober have potential but it is going to have to be developed on the fly and it might be painful to watch at times , especially against the elite non-conference teams. We all need to take a deep breath and remember that it's more important where this team is at in March than it is in November.
