Looks like Hansen needs to look at some West Coast recruits, as there are probably more of them out there who are getting overlooked by PAC 10 schools. Both teams USD Women and Men, and NDSU Men will be a challenge next year.
Seekamp has played for some U20, U19 Australian teams but has never been on the National Team that plays in the Olympics.

Braun had gotten a scholarship offer from Portland State (along w/ Augie guard Cam McCaffrey). But Portland State had some academic issues thus forcing them to lose 2 scholarships so Braun and McCaffrey were odd men out. Saul offered Braun a scholarship and McCaffrey a walk-on (with opportunity to earn a scholarship the 2nd year). Braun was a great pick up.

I never really checked on Seekamps background, but yesterday, JJ on the radio mentioned that she had played on national team. Obviously though she has more experience on the court than for instance, Ashley Eide had when she came to SDSU four years ago. I have no idea what U20 or U19 is about, please enlighten, as I am curious.

The U is for under - they play international ball in age groups as in Under 19 , Under 20 etc...

JJ may have meant National Under 19 yr old Australian team, where they won a world championship. That to me isn't the "National" Team, as that designation is for the Olympic Team (IMO). She is heck of player though.

I belive I heard that Braun had an injury in high school that cut down interest in him from bigger schools.

              My thoughts on other items:

              1. The announcers were not very good, especially compared to the men's broadcast. They were clearly reading off of pre-printed "storyline" cards. Not sure what they call those in the business. On one camera shot, they showed our assitant coach speaking with a member of the team and they said "There is SDSU's head coach Aaron Johnston"......not so much.

              2. Amy Williams is the real deal. Rocking the leopard vest (or was it Coyote?) was an excellent choice.

              3. Some of you astute observers of the tv broadcast may have seen this, but you had to put it together. After a made basket by USD (free throw I think) mid-way through the first half, AJ was able to catch the attention of an official on her way back down the court and spoke to her for 5 seconds or so. He had eye contact with the official. Amy Williams looked down the court and saw this and immediately began gesturing to this same official that she was trying to call a timeout after the free-throw. Basically, it was her way of letting the official know that she didn't appreciate her stopping off and talking to AJ. Gamesmanship at its finest!

While on the topic of officials , it will not hurt my feelings if that shorter female official that worked all three of the Jacks games is never seen around here again. I'm surprised they do not rotate officiating crews in a tournament situation like this.

I thought the officiating was bad in the championship game. There was no flow to that game.

Thought the officiating was poor as well. (Thought Harrington especially...got away with some play)

I think Amy Williams is top notch.

I do think USD is also losing some talent. I looked this up during the game yesterday.
They have 4 seniors, who all played yesterday...and two of them are their starting Guards... Wilson and Yackley.

Wonder if USD will continue to be a home for transfers...Yackley Iowa State, Wilson and Harrington from Junior Colleges...SeeKamp came in as a Sophomore from Australia.

Taylor Braun has family in the Fargo area, and coupled with an injury that limited his exposure, led to him ending up at NDSU.

Connor Devine is similar for us in the sense that he has family in South Dakota, so it helped in his recruiting process even though he's from Alaska.

Taylor had a scholarship at Portland State, an up and coming program at the time. They received a penalty and NCAA sanctions including loss of scholarships. One of the lost scholarships was Taylor's. Due to connections in ND Saul was given a tip and found the savior for his program.

As for the Jacks vs Coyotes game, great strategy by the coyotes and at least some unwillingness to make adjustments by the Jackrabbits kept things very close. Yotes just packed it in and dared the wrong players to take wide-open but out of their range shots. The players did that and missed. When AJ finally went to a smaller line-up (4 guard) and spread the floor it opened things up inside a bit for Katie (she didn't finish well) and also allowed us to get open outside looks in the flow of the offense. Eide stepped up in a big way after foul trouble and a little lack on intensity made her a non-factor in the first half.

Hard fought, ugly and gritty all at once. Not a pretty win but still impressive in my book.

I think they have 3 if not 4 highly touted guards redshirting as part of the plan or due to injury. If I am recalling correctly 4 players that were suppose to contribute significantly this year all missed the season due to injury. If that is true they will have plenty of firepower.

Where as we keep reaching for the sky,Flaata (6'2-6'3?)Ober (solid 6'2)Young (6 ft gaurd)Stevens (close to 6 ft gaurd). My gosh, someday we'll have all positions on the court 6 ft or taller. We already dominate smaller teams (IPFW)We need this though , if we continue to go to the NCAA tournament and match up size wise.As long as we keep them athletic and skilled, and not just tall,i think it's great.

The Yankton P&D said that the SDSU women have now won 32 of the last 35 games against USD. Is that right?

"Winner of now five consecutive Summit League post-season crowns, SDSU again got the better of its in-state rivals south on Interstate 29. In what was their 32nd win in the last 35 games over the Coyotes, the Jacks did little to let the gap narrow in the Summit."

USD fought hard and forced us out of our comfort zone but the result was our third win over them this year. They'll be good again next year but the Jacks are not going anywhere. Our sophomore class is pretty amazing and there are nice pieces ahead and behind it. Another championship and NCAA trip should keep the talent coming.

We will be seeing some other teams improving next year in the women's arena. AJ and the SDSU staff have been challenging these teams every year with domination in the league. WIU has 2 very talented freshmen gals and IPFW has some talent albeit a little small. IUPUI showed this year they have been kicked around enough. A stronger league is not a problem with the Jacks since a weak conference is not helping our RPI.
