Re: For The Championship: SDSU vs. UMKC

    Jacks win! Jacks win!

My hats off for UMKC though, as they played one hell of a game. How many huge contested shots did they hit throughout the game?

Congrats to our ladies! They hung in there through tons of adversity.

Ok the paramedics just left but left the IV in just in case they are called back later. It took about five minutes for the heart rhythm to settle back to an acceptable beat. Holy cow what a game. after that first half I did not know what to think but the girls pulled it off. They are a second half team. So proud of our Jacks. okay back to the oxygen.

I usually don't feel bad for an opposing team, but I felt a tinge of sorrow when Hall-Jones missed at the end. UMKC simply deserved that game as much as SDSU did. The Kangaroos played with heart and passion in a hostile environment for three straight days and I hope that this game can be a launching pad for both UMKC and the Summit League as teams like UMKC improve their programs and the league's RPI.

Congrats to the SDSU women for their 4th consecutive tournament title and NCAA berth!

man I guess the word "quit" is not in the Jackrabbit dictionary. that was a no panic, take our time, we can do this victory. This game was one of the best.

Umkc is probably the first time I ever felt bad for a losing team. They never gave up and made jumpers just when we looked to make a run or after a big play. Felt like the ball just bounced too them for rebounds. Sdsu just had a feeling they would win. The team never looked worried.

Probably the best crowd I have ever seen for a womens game imo. The first 10 minuites on the second half was where we won the game.

Agreed. The UMKC players put it all out there and it was tough to see them not get the win. There's a lot to like about UMKC. Great stars, great role players, depth, lots of heart. A team very much like our own with one very big exception: six seniors vs. our two. Hall-Jones was simply outstanding. If basketball shots were judged like a diving contest or a gymnastics event (degree of difficulty etc.), Hall-Jones had a number of 9.9s and 10.0s. No one else would have made one of the later shots she put in...she was being guarded well, was going sideways with her legs tangled and that ball was perfectly centered in the basket for another 3.

I think a neutal basketball fan (didn't favor SDSU or UMKC) would have thought the second half of that game was very exciting and entertaining.

Thanks for the pics and info, JD. The second half and overtime were definitely exciting. Even though UMKC does have six seniors, O'Connor, Nezianya, and Hill will return. Hill was a nonfactor due to foul trouble, but Nezianya and O'Connor were both demons on the boards. In addition, O'Connor made some clutch shots despite being shaken up earlier in the second half. I hope UMKC and some of the other schools in the Summit are able to boost their RPIs so we can at least have a conversation about possible at-large tourney bids in the near future.

By my count, Jill Young is now one three-pointer back of Ann Boese of IPFW for the all-time Summitt three-point record. Fitting that she put the Jacks into the final lead with two pressure FTs at the end, though - symbolic of the PG/playmaker role she accepted this year to help the team.

Will her three pointers in the Big Dance game count towards the record? I would think it would but dont know. Anyone know?

                            I thought the same thing.

Not sure why they woudnt. Did any 3s she make in previous ncaa touny games not count? I guess what's her career 3 pt total and see how many she made the last 3 ncaa tourneys. So what they said if it doesn't count then her summit league total should be different from her sdsu total.

career summit three-point leader would include all games, IMHO
