Re: Minnesota and Wisconsin looking for Coaches

"did ya hear? jerry kill just signed an extension!"

that's the "shot at maturi" joke going around---on all the extensions (& timing) maturi has dished out.

my hunch is, minny is gonna have serious problems with finding the money to get rid of borton at this time. i expect she will make it very near the end or thru her extension. i just don't think they will "bomb out" next year---she does have a pretty talented point guard coming in (rachel banham), not to mention the other gal. they should show some improvement, in spite of...

Once you sign the letter you are bound to the school. You can always leave, but you loose a year of eligibility if you move to another D1 school.

no no no. Once you sign a D-I letter of intent you are bound to that school. However you can still get released by the new coach or anyone at any time. Many times a new coach will release a player. Derrick Williams the kid from Arizona signed a LOI with USC but was released when Tim Floyd was fired and went to Arizona.

You don't lose any eligibility if you transfer whether you are released or not. you have 5 years to do 4 years of eligibility.

That is not true - once you start college classes, you have 5 years to use up your 4 years of eligibility. In this case,if Wisconsin would not release a player from their commitment, that player could enroll at a different DI school, sit out the first year and have 4 years to play. I believe this was the case with Jill Young when she enrolled at Creighton and transferred to SDSU

Based on her injury AnnMarie would most likely sit out this year anyway.

A letter of intent honestly isn't worth much more than the paper it is written on. 99% of the time the NCAA will let kids out of their LOI agreement for various reasons. If you are released from your LOI and you don't "enroll" in classes at that school, you are not considered a transfer. Jill Young's case is different because she actually started classes (2-3 days worth) at Creighton and then transferred to SDSU. SDSU's classes started later than Creighton's so she was able to transfer quickly. But since she did enroll at Creighton and went to those 2-3 days of classes she triggered transfer rules. That is the reason she had to sit her first year at SDSU.

Our football recruit this year who initially signed with Colorado and then was released from that LOI is a perfect example. Granted he will likely redshirt next year but he will be eligible to play right away if our coaches so choose.

He would be eligible regardless, because he is transferring from FBS to FCS.

You are right, but if it was FBS to FBS or FCS to FCS my argument wouldn't change.

Looks like we are assured AJ won't be leaving for Wisconsin:

Personally, I was pretty worried about this so thankfully he will be sticking around!

Been following the articles in Green Bay and Madison as well on this. Cullop from Toledo, one of the top candidates with head coaching experienced mentioned in the article you linked, signed an extension at Toledo yesterday.
