  • Minnesota and Wisconsin looking for Coaches

Well it is that time of year again when coahces will be getting fired and programs looking to hire. Word on the street is that both Minnesota and Wisconsin are looking for new head coaches. I think AJ will bite on this chance. What do you think?

Might be a little premature to say Borton is out at Minnesota as she is still the coach there. There are always rumors about her getting let go, but I think she has one more year and then she'll be out if she doesn't show a lot of progress. Has her best recruiting class in a while coming in.

Stone is out at Wisconsin. Here's the link...

Borton has 3 years left. The Gophers are buying out the contracts of Brewster,Mason and Monson so the cupboards are pretty bare for available $ to fire coaches - not that she doesn't deserve to go.

This is correct. Or I should say this is correct if your source is the Minneapolis media. It seems like she'll be around for at least another year until they can get those contracts sorted out. Also, with how the hockey program is going they might have to hire a new coach soon for that sport as well.

Joel Maturi has completely ruined Minnesota athletics.

Borton will have another year to get things turned around. I wonder if Stone leaving will affect AnnMarie Brown's decision. Interesting to read her last blog post before she committed to Wisconsin. http://gprep.net/903blog_brownblog.html

Sorry to start more thread drift, but I wonder if Vogel helped with any of that recruiting to SDSU? I know she's at St. Cloud but obviously she wasn't going to go Div. II.

            Carry on.

I believe Maturi is in the last year of his contract, and there is a new President coming on-board in the near future. So,you would think no one will be fired/hired until the new pres and hopefully new AD are in place.

If you sign a National Letter of Intent, and then the coach that you signed on with gets fired, released, moves to a better opportunity, are you REQUIRED to go? If Ms. Brown sends a letter to Wis before she steps on campus, is she required to sit out a year?

Not sure. More on Ms. Brown who tore her acl in January. http://host.madison.com/sports/colle...cc4c002e0.html

After reading her blog entry it seems odd how that offer from Wisconsin came about. It was a last minute offer before the early signing period. My guess is Wisconsin had a couple kids say "no thanks" and then Brown got an offer last minute. And they only gave her two days to make a decision? Anyone shed any light on this?

This is the first thing I thought of too when I read that UW's coach was out...

As to the other question, I'm pretty sure since she signed a LOI already, she would either have to be released by that school or sit out one year at a different school she attends.

Coaching Changes. I understand I have signed this NLI with the institution and not for a particular sport or coach. If a coach leaves the institution or the sports program (e.g., not retained, resigns), I remain bound by the provisions of this NLI. I understand it is not uncommon for a coach to leave his or her coaching position.
However, it is not uncommon for universities to release players from their LOIs when there's a coaching change (cf Cody Larson's Iowa LOI)

yeah, LOI are with the school not the coach, but many times coaches will let them out of it.

As far as the coaching positions, does anybody know what Wisconsin's coach was making? AJ makes $114,358.00 a year as SDSU.

According to this site in 2009 Wisconsin's ex-coach Lisa Stone made $302,123.
