Kristin Rotert understands that losses are a part of a young team’s growing pains.
Nonetheless, the South Dakota State University senior can’t help being bothered by the women’s basketball team’s slow start.
“It’s a little disappointing,” Rotert said of the Jackrabbits’ 3-4 record. “We haven’t been able to get a win on the road. It’s frustrating, but we’ve got a pretty new team compared to last year. There’s a lot of maturing and so much potential. A lot of the girls are trying to find their niche and hit their grooves.”
The Salem native isn’t used to losing as she entered the season with a 77-21 record in three years with the Jackrabbits. In high school, she starred at McCook Central and was a Miss Basketball finalist.
So, what does the 6-foot forward think is the cure for the team’s struggles?
“Mature more,” Rotert said. “Get mental toughness and win road games. Once we get to the point where our rhythm comes together, offensively, we’ll be a dangerous team.”
