  • Actual Real Life JACKRABBIT SPOTTED ON CAMPUS

A little off topic but I was just on my way to Walmart from campus, and I kid you not there was an actual, full blooded foot and a half tall Jackrabbit standing in the test fields to the east of the Performing Arts Center. Very rare to see especially in an urban setting, usually you only see them in south central SD, but yes there was an actual Jackrabbit here on campus. Maybe some divine intervention a brewing in Jackrabbit nation?

During the spring there are always a bunch of those giant rabbits in that testing field east of campus. Not a rabbit expert but I'm pretty sure they are jack rabbits. They're HUGE

When will SDSU get a Real live rabbit to have as a mascot and make home for on campus. he would make apperances at sporting events and such. Im sure animal rights people would have a problem with it, but putting a little jersey or little rabbit sized outfit on him would be cool. He would have the nicest area to live in, eating all the hay and what ever other stuff rabbits eat. Like other schools who have mascots as animals. UG bulldogs, Texas, Colorado. I know those are different animals but they are taken care of extremely well im sure.

I think I saw one in McCrory Gardens while on a run Sunday morning - I'm pretty sure it was an actual jackrabbit because it was still mostly white from the winter... made me feel lucky!

I've heard the term lucky used in conjunction with McCrory Gardens before. But it usually was preceeded by the term gettin'. ;D ;D ;D

When I was in school, we still had the green beanies. One day in a speech class the instructor got mad and told all the freshman to take off the beanies. One kid said he lost his at McCrory Gardens. The Prof said that isn't the only thing that had been lost at the garden. (If you know what I mean)

My guess is that like many wild animals, the stress of being placed in captivity often causes them to die after just a couple of days, even if they have been given the best care.
