Not trying to dis-count anyones opinion. We are all entitled those, just pointing out the fact that when any coach leaves there is going to be fall out. Only Palileo and Phil know what went on with them and the rest of really don't need to know.

Easy fix?.... Nana and her staff and team need to win, plain and simple, and Palileo will be forgotten.

Had Palileo not had winning teams would you still feel the same? Just a thought.

      GO JACKS!

        Because winning is easy, right?

The program had definite momentum that was just killed. Two years of recruiting wasted, and two veteran leaders gone from a very young team.

Nana got a repairable from Nordstroms, not a used car in working condition.

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

If Palileo were -not- a good coach, his conduct wouldn't be any more ethical, but it would at least be less damaging to the program.

One could be annoyed with what he did without adding the observation that he 'screwed over' the VB program.

Palileo seem like a classy guy when during his stint at SDSU, in fact when you watched an SDSU match, you often wonder who this surfing Hiawain guy was that was sitting the team. In other words, he seemed like a very laid back coach. When he left we find all sorts of strange things happening.

Jack#1 Fan was right on in his comment about leaving in a high ground manner. He left with every name of every person who attended his summer camps and I know of one case until recently was still attempting to recruit a local who is about 2 years away from high school graduation. So opportunity is never wasted by Palileo. I put him in the same boat with the former track coach that pocketed the student athletes lunch money on track outings and athletes had buy their own lunch. Seems like he was a west coast guy too. Hmm I think we should stay away from the left coast for hiring coaches, they just never work out.

Dang it, I have been trying to do to many things at once lately and this is at least the third time I thought I put in an emoticon but missed when I clicked. Got to slow down.

It went a long, long time ago. Just ask my wife.

I thought the same thing until I visited with some family of a player with a nickname of a state of the union. They had very little positive to say about Coach Palileo and some of his moral/character issues. I don't think it's anything 'over the line', but in hindsight, I believe he may not have fit the mold of the character head coaches we have in our programs.

Off to the left coast he goes - we may not make the tournament for a few more years, but in the meantime we can recruit quality kids and give them a quality education at a quality school. So be it.

She played her heart out in '08. Or--in a more anatomically correct sense--she player her arm out in '08. I recall TV mentioning that she was regularly in a sling between games.

Finished second in the nation in kills per set--and her play was probably the bright spot of the season.

It's a long way from home and often times these kids think they're ready for the big time, but again, it's a long way from home. I couldn't help but think watching her during the past VB season that she would look good in Blue & Yellow! (But then anyone that saw her play - correct me if I'm wrong - she would look pretty good in whatever colors she is wearing!)
Glab is a good player and a nice person. She has a connection with SDSU: Her sister (not in athletics) attended the U of MN but transferred to SDSU.

I hope Marcelina does well at the Pac 10 level but if she changes her mind, I think she'd be happy as a Jackrabbit!

well, it is my understanding (from a mutual friend) that if Phil would have known he was taking or seriously considering the job in Wash. he most likely would have waited on his decision, and we all act like Palileo was the savior to this success, I am sorry but i remember when we could not even make it into post season play and had a new head coack like every year for a while...until Mary Byrne, she handed him a team set to win DII and they did, he just had the task to keep the machine rolling. Mary had a very hard road to travel when she came, and it was not pretty but it never is when you introduce change, as with Nana. I think she has recruited very well and I hope they continue to develop and stay, there is a lot of raw talent on the court.

Hmmm i think we can all have enough respect for palileo to give him credit for his last year at SDSU. The seniors during his last season at sdsu were all his recruits, and as most of them confess, they "sucked" their freshman year and ended up setting a lot of new records by the time they left. He did earn coach of the year at pac-10, which says a lot about him as a coach since they finished far from the top of the conference.
Palileo may play mind games, is manipulative, and down right mean at times, but he is a damn good coach.

                            Re: Cindy Henning

btw, i think most people are forgetting the major effect of nana's inconsistency; the players. as she brings in and fires more staff, the players are constantly having take their focus away from training, and attempt to get to know a person whom should play a vital role on the team. This inconsistency has leaked into matches where she keeps on subbing in the setters. The setters never get a good feel for the game, and the hitters never get a good feel for the setters.

I hope that this new assistant coach is to nana's liking because i dont think the seniors will be able to handle another situation where nana is constantly undermining her own staff.

on a lighter note, i am very excited to hear that ketty will be a part of the squad. im not too sure about her vball skills but she is a great person, an amazing athlete, and an amazing motivator. i think she will be the inspiration that the volleyball program needs. not to mention that she will bring in a much needed crowd

First of all, when things are not going well on the court and the offense is not working..., one of the first things that you do in vb is replace the setter (ask any coach), it changes the flow of the game and can serve as a great "jump start" to something that hs just gone stagnant, also the team lacked the killer instinct, due to youth, due to coaching, maybe coaching tension?....she has a lot of talent on the team and I think they will be exciting to watch.

They were runner-up in D2. Andrew got rid of Phil before he let anyone know he was considering WSU. If he hadn't got rid of Phil first, Phil may have had an easy decision.
