South Dakota State’s Kristina Martin and Samantha Pearson have been named Summit League Volleyball Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, after leading the Jacks to a 2-0 record and their 10th and 11th straight wins last week.
Martin earns Offensive Player of the Week honors after tallying a career-high and SDSU single-match rally scoring record 36 kills in a five-game win over IUPUI last week. The senior had just three errors in 67 attempts for a .493 hitting percentage. She also finished with 16 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. For the week, Martin averaged 5.44 kills on .412 hitting, 2.78 digs and 0.44 blocks as the Jackrabbits went 2-0 and remained undefeated in Summit League play.
Pearson nabs Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after averaging 6.22 digs per game last week. In a four-game win over Oakland, she finished with a match-high 19 digs. She followed that up with a career-high and SDSU rally scoring record 37 digs in a 3-2 win over IUPUI, the 11th straight victory for the Jacks. Pearson is now 41 digs shy of the Jackrabbit career digs record.
