    Re: This week in Volleyball

It sounds like NDSU has really improved since we last saw them play here in September that the Jackrabbit Tournament.  I really didn't give them much hope of having a good season.  But congrats to the Bison who have come together.  Now lets go Rabbits and pull off a come back win.
AND this is post 39,500 on the board.

Although we did not play the Bison on the 15th or 16th, they played well that week-end. They had New Mexico State down early and did not trail in game one against them until after the tornado delay. Hopefully we can pull this match out though.

South Dakota State snapped North Dakota State’s seven match win streak in a hard fought five game match Sunday at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse in Fargo.

Four Jackrabbit hitters tallied ten or more kills, led by Kristina Martin with 18. Emily Rooney added 14, Laura Slagter 13, Minnette Ridenour 12 and Amy Anderson 10. Martin also gathered in 20 digs, while Ridenour had 13 to complete their double-double performances. Samantha Pearson led the Jacks with 27 Digs.

Kristie Klusaw racked up 60 set assists to lead the Jacks.

The two teams split a pair of 30-20 games to open the match, with the Jacks winning Game 1 and the Bison taking Game 2.

Game 3 stayed close throughout, but the Bison took a 2 games to 1 advantage with a 30-24 win.

The Jackrabbits won a close Game 4 30-26 to set up Game 5.

Tied at 4 in Game 5, the Jacks rattled off 5 straight points, and eventually won 15-10

Sheila Parrish got a match high 27 kills in a losing effort, and Chloe Quirk added 19.

The Jacks improve to 17-7 on the season by winning their third straight match, while the Bison fall to 13-10.

SDSU returns to action on Tuesday, when they host Drake at Frost Arena.

Annie Adams is wanted and it's a nice feeling to have. The 6-foot-1, senior outside hitter for the Crosby-Ironton Rangers volleyball team was offered a full-ride scholarship to play volleyball next season for Division I South Dakota State University

Hello, this is the No. 22-ranked volleyball team in the country, and we’re recruiting your daughter.

That was essentially what Ashley Hardee told Damon Salazar over the phone nearly three weeks ago. The news from Hardee, an assistant coach at New Mexico State University, was more than welcome by Salazar, the father of Kristi Salazar. “I didn’t expect to be recruited at all by NMSU,” says Kristi Salazar, an outside hitter for Espańola Valley. “That was a really big surprise.” Since that phone call, the Aggies have since dropped out of the American Coaches Volleyball Association Top 25 poll. Unofficially, with 86 votes in this week’s poll, they are the 26th-ranked team among the nation’s NCAA Division I teams.

Ranked or not, Kristi Salazar is thrilled with the prospect of playing volleyball at the top level. Instead of a hitting position, the 5-foot-7 standout — who will make an official visit to NMSU on Oct. 13 and 14 — is hoping to earn a spot as a libero or defensive specialist.
Kristi Salazar also is in no hurry.

She’ll make another recruiting trip to D-I South Dakota State University on Oct. 20 and 21. Kristi Salazar and Strauss attended a camp there the past summer, and with the help of SDSU assistant coach Phil McDaniel, the Jackrabbits have expressed interest in her as a libero or a setter.
“(McDaniel) is the one who actually, not taught me how to set, but perfected my set,” says Kristi Salazar, who attended Aggies volleyball camps while in high school.

It was in Las Cruces where she met McDaniel, who was an assistant at NMSU from 2002-2004.

Jacks dispose of UTPA 3-0. Games score were 30-14, 30-27, 30-16. The ladies are 19-7 overall. They play the Alumni match today at 3:00 p.m. and then travel to Utah Valley State next week. Keep up the good work ladies.

Jacks defeat Alumni 3-1. Some of the alumni still got game. Final home match will 11/04/06 versus NDSU. I think it is break the record night for attendance. Football is in the afternoon, so everybody should be at VB that evening. Go Big! Go Blue! GO JACKS!!!
