Softball Recruiting

Coach Wood has been doing an excellent job getting the best in-state players to come to SDSU. To my knowledge, there are currently 4 commits from SD. Softball in South Dakota has become much more competitive over the last several years and there is no shortage of talented players coming up.

2019:

2020:

Cheyanne Masterson, 3B, West Central/Sioux Falls Steel

Jacks get a HUGE commit out of Nebraska for the 2021 class. Brooke Dumont a catcher from Papillion-La Vista tweeted her commitment last night. Dumont has been selected to the Journal Star's Super State team for three years,... and she still has her senior season coming up next year. She was flirting with setting the all-time highest batting average last season and can hit for power. She's great behind the plate and has caught for the best pitchers in Nebraska for three seasons.

Her high school team repeated as champions, going undefeated on the season. In the state tournament, they outscored the competition 43-2 in three games. Her summer league team, the Nebraska Premier Gold, went 73-6 during the summer. They won the Team 1 Fastpitch Elite Club National Championship this summer.

It would have been too sweet to get her teammate, Jordyn Bahl to join her in Brookings. Bahl has been the best pitcher in Nebraska for three years, but will be pitching for the Sooners after graduating next year.

And, as this article notes, Dumont picked the Jacks over offers from all three Nebraska DI programs, including the Huskers.

This is probably the best recruiting class for Coach Wood in recent years. I've gotten to watch some of these girls play for several years and they have a chance to be real difference makers.

Looks like coach Woods is putting together a really good team, this season was pretty good too. I hope we can keep coach Woods at SDSU for a long, long time!!

Any partial scholarships in softball? Getting a commit after an offer from the Gophers is big.

Yes, softball is allowed to offer partial scholarships as it is an equivalency sport. Their max is 12 full scholarships but I'm not sure where SDSU is at as far as how many they have.
