We're seeing progress from the entire team--much better offense tonight. We also ran into the National Runnerup who was IMHO much more ready to play in their opener than Kentucky was in theirs.

            Bison lost 70-57, I think.

Jacks need to put a premium on defending the home court, especially this year. SEMO looks to be very beatable.

                  Nagy:

Our defense was pathetic, post players were nowhere to be found tonight. Started as soon as the game started--posts weren't very good defensively tonight and it hurt, we were in foul trouble all night.

Turnovers-our guys are nervous and scared in the first half. I told the players our team is so young, inexperienced, to schedule the way we did is a tough thing. Getting beat by 25 is not a good experience, I don't care what anybody says. There's no toughness to us now because we're so young.

Holdren played good, but the team loses so it doesn't matter. I hope Holdren doesn't feel good about getting beat by 25.

Hopefully our posts will be better--it was frustrating because any little tap and bam there's a foul.

I don't know if Weber is pleased with tonight, what you look for is how did your team play, were you focused. We messed up plays, didn't shoot well from the free throw line. We're not tough enough yet, but we'll get there.

I haven't even looked at SEMO, but we'll be at home, hopefully we'll get a lot of fans to come out Thanksgiving evening.

Some of the hype of playing these teams will be over and we can get down to playing the season.

                    Re: Illinois

25 points is tough to take. But I've watched a lot of Big Ten basketball in the last few years. That Augustine has handed it to a lot of Big Ten post players. The guy is a monster. He's 6'10" but seems longer than that and he's very athletic. We just couldn't match up with their big guys, particularly when the refs are calling touchy fouls inside.

Nagy was pretty tough on his team in the post-game interview with WNAX. He was really frustrated with the defense, particularly with the post players who have been so good on defense in the first two games. You can hear the frustration in Nagy's voice, but he was sure to say that he likes his team, that they want to win, that they play hard, and that they'll get better. I see a lot of athleticism on this team, and in stretches, they're very good. 25-point loss or no, I think the future looks pretty bright for this team.

The mighty TransferHawks pull it out again. Maybe the spirit of Mike Frickin' Nelke was with them. They're going to need more than that on Thanksgiving. The Jacks will win that one.

The fun thing this year will be seeing this team come together and get better as the year goes on. We have to remember that there's not a single senior on the squad.

What I'm hoping for is that by the end of the year, we'll have a team that can go out to San Diego and beat the (predicted) Mountain West champion Aztecs and then turn around and beat the (predicted) Big West champion Titans of CSU-Fullerton.

That would make the entire season very, very sweet indeed.

I cant agree more with coach. A 25 point loss is not something to feel good about at the same time these kids are babies in experience but fought very courageously against great team of athletes  and a hostile crowd.  I dont think the worst of the Augie/USD students could match what the Illini crowd displayed, but I guess this is what you expect in BIG 10 and big time D1.

I noticed Micheal Loney when shotting a free throw had kind of a funny  look on his face, and then the ESPN sound picked up " Loney sucks" repeatedly. I now know why he had the look. I sure he will recover as will the rest of the team. I thought the ESPN guys were very complimentry of SDSU, Holden and Coach Nagy.

Watching the Nicholas State Vs Indiana game, I think we could handle Nicholas State maybe, but it would be close. They lost to Indiana by more than 30.

Augustine is a stud, no doubt about it. We just did not block him out defensively and had his own way offensively and defensively. I hope our big guys learned something from experience.

Dee Brown is very and unbelieavable quick. No doubt NBA talent here. Illionis though young is going to be very good. Its a good thing we played them now.

The Rabbits are a very young team playing their third road game this week, and they are playing their second ranked team of the week. So is it any wonder they ran out of gas especially given the foul situation. At times they looked very good and throughout the game they looked sooooo much better then anything we saw last year. I am looking forward to seeing the Jacks play in Frost next Thursday.

                              Go State! ;D
