Did I hear correctly during post-game that Kai is only a few rebounds away from #2 all-time? He's also #8 in points I believe...

7 short of tying for #2 with Lee Colburn.

Hope he gets it Saturday night in front of a home crowd and his parents are in town!

I know people have been critical of Kai and his play at times. Even I have been frustrated only because I could see what great potential he had. He has been a joy to watch however throughout his career. They say that rebounding is about effort. The fact he may end his career at #2 all-time is a real statement about the effort he has put into his time at SDSU. I hope for Kai's sake and the other two Seniors, that they win on Saturday.

I actually think Kai is so good that he makes it look effortless.

I mean seriously look.....he is likely to finish #2 in rebounding and #8 (or higher) in scoring against the toughest competition SDSU has EVER faced. I think that says something.

Other than shutting down a big scorer, rebounding is the purest measure of effort in basketball. The guy has had a phenomenal career through some character-testing seasons. Glad he's a Jackrabbit.

I don't understand why people are always throwing Palarca under the bus. Wolters is a very nice player with huge upside, he will be an all time great if his career follows the trajectory he has set this season. There is more to basketball than a silky smooth runner in the lane.

                Here are some actual facts:

Against WUI Palarca has 3 points, Wolters had 6. Palarca had 1 rebound, Wolters had 2. Palarca had 4 assists, Wolters had 3. Palarca had 3 steals, Wolters had 2. Palarca had 2 turnovers, Wolters had 1. Nothing in those stats tells me that one guy was head and shoulders above the other, at least last night.

                Let's look at season stats:

                Palarca - 17.4 mpg, 102 points, 52 rebounds, 80 assists, 22 steals, 42 turnovers, 0 blocks, 35 fouls

                Wolters - 24.1 mpg, 275 points, 96 rebounds, 81 assists, 33 steals, 58 turnovers, 8 blocks, 51 fouls

If you break their stats down by minutes played, they are pretty much identical, other than scoring where Wolters has a clear edge (and he rightly plays about 7 more minutes per game because of it). Nate has a slight edge in rebounding, Palarca has a similar edge in assists. IMO, Palarca is the better defender right now because he hassle's the other team's point a lot more, but that is less tangible in the stat sheet.

Its not that hard to understand. Wolters usually plays with the unit with less scoring power because he is a better scorer. Palarca usually plays with the scorers because he is a slightly better passer and Wolters has to rest sometime.

Playing them together, we have a point guard position that averages 13.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 2 steals. If you think Wolters playing 40 minutes puts up those numbers, you're insane. He would wear down and the law of diminishing returns kicks in.

Not to mention Wolters is one of our healthiest players heading into the most crucial part of the season, in large part because he only plays 24 minutes a game.

IMO, they are both good players and are getting about the appropriate amount of playing time for their ability. Last night was a weird rotation because Garrett was out.

                End of rant.

These guys deserve every one of us within a resonable mile radius to be in attendance Saturday night at Frost. Students, Alumni, All Season ticket holders, Band, other Student Athletics, etc, etc, etc-!!

Kai and Garrett are arugably two of SDSU's best players in history that played against "not arguably" the TOUGHEST competition of any SDSU men's basketball team EVER.
Kai, Garrett, and Mark took SDSU though the toughest transition that any athletic team will go through in the transition from D-II to D-I.

A loud and long standing ovation is well deserved Saturday night for Kai, Garrett and Mark. They've given a TON to SDSU when most would've packed up and went home(let's not forget how may did pack up and go home), given what they've gone though the past four years.

                  Go Jacks!!

                    What he said.

Also, Palarca is a junior. Wolters is a freshman. HUGE difference.

It is my uneducated opinion that the offense runs smoother with Wolters. I think Palarca is a decent player, but more suited for a back-up role.

                      Just my opinion.

I do not think that Wolters should be playing 40 minutes.

Fair enough, but I think that at the beginning of the 2nd half when the SDSU was in a funk that Wolters should have been inserted before the 15:00 min mark. Not saying that Palarca was the problem, but I just think that SDSU plays better with Wolters on the floor.

He plays 7 minutes a game less than Wolters. Isn't that pretty much the definition of a back-up role?

Some people just assume that since Wolters hasn't been out there for every the opening tip that this means he isn't being given a shot. These are also many of the same folks that would rather judge the team based on how the players walk to the scorer's table rather than look at actual stats.

I, for one, think that having Nate learn how to be a pesky defender from Palarca is going to pay big dividends in the next few years.

I think we beat a pretty good defensive team last night and if Coach Molinari gives us nothing but respect, whose playing point and for how many minutes is a very mute point in my opinion. Both Palarca and Wolters had their moments in TO's and also Michael did real well with the steals. Be glad we got both back next year.
