  • Whatever....

The time in the 2nd half where every call went againt SDSU.....you know, just seconds after Saul was seen barking in an officials face, was an absolute JOKE. An embarassment to the Summit....a JOKE!!!!!!

Saul even said it, they got some breaks tonight. Ya think coach? You should sell used cars, you'd be a millionaire!

That said, the Jacks need to make FT's. But the officiating? A complete JOKE!!! Good God guys....turn on your whistles. Awful.

Blah blah, we would get ripped to shreds on BV for a thread like this, I agree that the Summit refs are an absolute joke but.......... 8 straight who had the flu this time?

Takes a while for the tide to turn.

BTW: let me know if the season sweep gets NDSU a better seed than the Jacks come tournament time.

Sorry Tea, but there were a lot of bad calls both ways. In part, how do you think we got to the point where they had 8 team fouls and we had one. The officiating in the Summit League is bad, not biased.

Exactly. The bison won the game by making FT's and hitting the big shots. No one can argue that the officials allowed them a chance to stay in the game with poor call after poor call but the fact is they capitalized and won the game. Credit to them.

C'mon, Tea, ripping on the officials and blaming someone else is what Bison and ORU fans do.

Sometimes a team just has your number. It gets in the players heads and they start to tighten up in crunch time. Best thing we can do is move one and hopefully if we meet them in the Summit League tournament, we can get them there.

I agree it's a mental thing, though the Jacks amplified the head problems with many, many other mistakes that are hard to comprehend. Mental problems are simply that, and you have to buck up and grow up and get over them. If you can't...you lose...and continue to lose. Period.
Grumbling along and embracing my role. If I didn't care, I wouldn't care. Go Jacks!

                  Re: Whatever....

Some bad luck (that free throw getting stuck on the rim?) a lousy first half, some shaky 3-point defense, and missed free throws were the difference.

NDSU stepped up and made three amazing shots. They seemed to want it more than us in the first half (how does that happen in a rivalry game?)

Sure there were shaky calls both ways, but there were 29 called against NDSU and 26 against us.

The way things look now, we'll probably get NDSU in the first round of the tourney. I hope we don't sleep walk through the first half in that one.
                  Holy nutmeg!

                    Re: Whatever....

Sorry, Tea, but the subsequent posters said it all for me. Its not the refs. Not much to add for me. I hoping for a rematch in SF. I think that a win down their will trump the two season losses.

Ahead by three ,they have the ball ,defend the three point line at all costs, even giving up the two, or ,foul (not in the act of shooting a three, of course) They make two, take the inbound & run out the clock or draw a foul.Simple, we win.We had two chances to follow this scenario(sp) for a win, instead we let them tie...couldn,t believe it.

I don't think we had a real good chance to foul at end of regulation...Vaughn throws up a wild 3 that bounces out towards Zastrow and then he nails it....BUT at the end of the 1st OT you have to foul for crying out loud. We had plenty of chances to win, but our coaches need to do the same. I'm very concerned about how this team responds...

If there is any remorse about how it played out, I would think Coach Nagy might very likely in his own mind be very remorseful, but I suspect he would rather prepare for the next two road games and not dwell too much of this game concluded last night. You are right though, this strategy could have won the game. I sure Nagy knows that too. The decisions were made and we cant change anything now.

If I remember right,we were in this same situation 2 or 3 times last season with the same results. Dale Moss in the post-game interview said the players knew they should foul, but just didn't get the job done. Not sure if a timeout to emphasize this would have helped or not - that also allows the offense a chance to set up a play.

                              Stuff happens.

Head games are so much more important in college ball where the oldest player is -maybe- 23.

My dad was pretty old when he was drafted--26--and he recalls having to explain to the 18/19 year olds what the drill sergeant was trying to do to them.

It is quite clear that the Bison have gotten in the heads of the Jacks players, just like ORU & the women. And while they came closer to getting that monkey off their back last night than they have over the past 4 years, they still didn't get it done.

This is a team that would have beat the Bison by 20 or more if they were wearing any other jersey, but for whatever reason, they can't get it done against them.

IMO, they were carrying the last seven losses too heavily; they wanted payback. They were fixated on getting payback, getting 'even'--it may have been better to pretend that the past seven games hadn't even happened.
