  • Re: Oru

Just have to play a little bit better inside on both ends of the court and we would have had this. Thought we handled their runs a lot better than we would have in the past, especially on the road. I definitely would consider us the favorites in a match up in Sioux Falls, which would be awesome if that match up happened, because that would more than likely mean we'd be playing them in the conference championship game.

Speaking of inside game where is Tony Fiegen? Did he play? Just kind of curious.

I like the fact that we competed, and we definately didn't roll over for them like we would have a couple of years ago when they went on that big run in the second half.

With that said, we went through some periods where our ball movement & shot selection were just awful. We attempted 29 threes in the game tonight & at least 10 were from well beyond NBA stripe. We have got to start getting & hitting more 10-15' jumpers to open up the lane. That will open up more backdoor lanes for us, and give the guards more options when they do drive to the basket.

It wouldn't hurt if a certain post player would decide to show up this year.

Exactly. We had no post play......on either end of the floor. I'm beginning to think Kai might be our best option at the 5.

We're definately undermanned at the post spot. We have a 4 playing the 5 & a 3 playing the 4. When we get the right matchups, they both have ability, when we don't, it shows.

It should get better next year, but we still won't have the depth I would like to see.

I don't like the idea of Kai playing the 5 on the defensive end, especially against players like Ford from ORU & Benson for Oakland. Consistently having him in foul trouble would not be good for our team.

Nobody else rebounds or plays defense well enough to do it. Keep up the good work Kai.

No arguements about this post and the one that proceded it. Finding good inside people that can hit the ground running are very hard to find. No offense intended but we can not wait until the senior year to get six or seven minutes of playing time out a big guy. We need to have playing minutes right off the bat.

A couple years ago, woulda thunk our women would be get blown out and our men would be competing and should've been winning some of these games?

Very exciting times for the men, years past that would have been a 20 point loss....granted, a loss is a loss, but I like what I saw (for the most part) tonight......obviously, as stated previously, the lack of a post game kills us.

                      I may have a man-crush on Sargent.

How did Nate's layup roll out? Nice drive, too bad it didn't go down for him. A game SDSU should have won. I agree with Nagy's comment about the officials having a rough one out there. How did Mark not get called for a foul on the dunk? They missed calls both ways. Shooting 29 3 pointers is a little much. What happened to all those mid-range shots from the first half?
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

Kai was the one making all of those for the most part, and he sat down for a large stretch in the second half with foul trouble. To me that is the risk when having Kai defend the 4 ( or 5).

The biggest reason we shot so many threes, was the players we put on the court. Cordova & Engen are the only ones who seem to have a real feel for getting a good shot off in the low post. Most of the rest who saw significant time in the game are face-the-basket shooters. They are all good enough, but I think we got too stuck in that mind-set.

A year ago, it didn't seem like we had anyone that was willing to take the tough shots. Last night, Nate & Clint hit some huge shots with guys right in their grill. Garrett, Michael, & Dale all put up shots in situations where they havn't in the past, that demonstrates their improved confidence.

I'm not saying this to start an argument, but there were a few shots that just should not have been taken last night (a lot of them were 3s). I like the idea that AC is trying to draw a foul, but if you headbob 3,4, or 5 times each time, no one is going to fall for the fakes. And I don't know who was doing the stats for the commentators, but how the heck did SDSU not have any blocks. Kai had 2 on one series and Mark had one where he didn't even have to jump to block the guy. To win, we need a better line from Garrett, AC, Dale, and Michael than 2-20 shooting.

I don't disagree with that, and said earlier in the thread, that I thought the shot selection was poor for much of the second half. I don't think they were forcing really bad shots, so much as just not being patient enough for better ones. i.e. I don't mind Palarca taking a deep NBA three when the shot clock is at 3, but it doesn't make sense when it is at 16. On the other hand I'm glad they actually have the confidence to take them. That confidence hasn't always been there.

Cordova & Engen had just 5 shot attempts combined in their 39 minutes of play (0-5). ORU had 6 blocks in the game, but 4 of them were by their point guard, so its not like they kept getting there shots swatted, and they combined for just 1 turnover. We didn't give our posts much of a chance on the offensive end. On the defensive end, they were pretty good for most of the game.
