    Re: Jacks vs Denver

At the end of the game, we didn't have much choice as to who was on the floor. The five out there were the only ones left of those who had played any minutes. Frias didn't leave the bench all night...

jackmd...serisously, I know Mitchell rabbit, and you have no clue.  You are about the most negative guy on this board.  Read through the posts a bit, and you'll see.  Whenever the Jacks are up, you are a fan, but you are mostly talking **** against them when they are losing...yet you call out another fan when what he says is correct???

      P.S. Go Jacks!

What is the story on Frias. Why did he not play. I know some have mentioned that he plays out of control sometimes. I have not seen any games, so I have assume that is why he did not play.

Frias is athletic, everything you could want, but he turns the ball over to much, does not take good shots and is being outplayed by Heien, who probably has half the talent, but twice the heart/bball sense.

He could be great if it were not for his lack of aggressiveness.
He could be great, but not a good bball player. Sounds like conflicting statements. Remember, Kleinjan got a key steal in the last minute, and made a huge shot that sent the game to overtime (even if it was after the buzzer). And coach Nagy was putting him in on defensive rotations. Sounds agressive to me. Ask anyone from Brookings, Andy has never showed a lot of emotion on the floor. Just because he has been cold shooting, don't quit on him. He has stuck with State through the transition to DI. I'm sure he could have transferred (like others have), but he is fulilling his committment to SDSU. His shots will fall.

Heien is well known to anyone following highschool basketball 2-3 years ago. I think he may have had brothers play at Mt Marty? He played in some all-star games. He came to State because Mt Marty didn't have his major. And he will bring the mustache, which was once acceptable only for highway patrolmen, back into popular culture! ;D ;D

Mac's defense also caused a huge turnover at the end. That is pretty huge after sitting on the bench most of the game. He seems to be losing confidence after some good games to start the season.

I know I keep hitting on this, but these SD kids are underrated. They play solid D, take care of the ball, and make good decisions-good basketball. A lot of the good things they do don't show up on the stat sheet. I'm sure a couple games ago no one would have thought Heien would be doing what he is right now (except those with faith in local talent). I'm not saying they will be all americans, but they can contribute. Then again, when Heien goes 1 for10 someday, some will say he should be kicked off the team.

Everyone wants to give the new guys time, be patient they say. I say be patient with everyone on the team, they will all get better. And if we continue to play like we did in the second half, we will win games too.

                  Re: Jacks vs Denver

When I say he could be great, I mean if he played like he gave a damn. Maybe he is just one of those who doesn't show alot of emotion. Or he is a step too slow, the steal aside, there are many more times where he has a chance where the ball bounces off his two hands and finds its way to the other team. While favoring the home state players is hard not to do, considering that one has watched them throughout highschool, we shouldn't overlook inadequacte play. Andy may be a solid player, the only thing that is conflicting has been his play as to date. I expect more out of someone that carries the accolades that Andy has been posted to have recieved. I'm not trying to single him out, there are others on the team that are not playing up to potential or otherwise. Our record would be alot more tolerable if we all new that all of the Jacks were playing to their utmost abilities. Is that not the least bit agreeable?

The shoe does fit and I am about to climb in the shower and wash off all the kettle black stuff.

The win last night will lift our spirits up some and maybe we can get back to being SDSU fans and stop trying to outcoach Nagy and Larson. We seem to have done that too much since last tuesday. Denver was a very good basketball team, and Nagy said they had a shot at the big dance this year. ;D
                    Lets enjoy this win

SDSUFAN, I would bet the comment is directed at the good doc (seen Fox TV lately). I do have to agree with it a bit also. Read md's tag line, it talks about vision yet his vision is alway gloom and doom (read the opening comments)
I am a football guy but love to attend the basketball games. Last night I was in the upper deck general admission seats behind the Jacks bench. One funny comment. When Cadwell was taking his three that he missed at the end of regulation he had a smile on his face a mile wide. He just knew he was going to make it.

If the young guys can gain some confidence this year and continue to improve and maintain a good attitude even through all the adversity rest assured Nagy and Co. will have some reinforcements on the way. Guys like Cadwell, Gilbert and Holdren are going to be very tough by the time they are juniors with the level of competition they will have played against. There are also good players out there who see an opportunity to get some playing time sooner with the Jacks then they might get with a more esstablished DI program.

I don't post much because there are some jerks that respond with things like:

"Screw you. You have very little positive to say. Take that for what its worth and PM me if you have a problem."

Pietila, I think you can see that a lot of people think you're a jerk. There are a lot of people that read this board and never post anything. I have come across a lot of these people. We talk about things people have said on the board. One topic that usually comes up is how you're a jerk. I hope you're proud of that.

I was having one of the best days of my life yesterday. I graduated from the school we all love and saw probably the best ending to a game I will ever get to see. Three last second three pointers to eventually win in overtime. You can't beat that for an ending.

I get home from the game and read the thread about the game. It's filled with negative comments from a guy 250 miles away. It made me sick.

Nobody reads this board for your comments about the game that you didn't see. It's not fun to be constantly reading your pessimistic posts. You have ruined this message board for me.

I think everyone else you have ever belittled will understand this part.

Feel free to try to embarrass me now. I look forward to not responding to your private message for almost two years...again.

                            Re: Jacks vs Denver

I'm not going to refer to anybody's post, nor say anything negative about any individual post, but I was at the game (as usual) against Denver and I have some comments.
I've been at almost every Jack home game for more than 30 years, and a ton of the on-the-road game. I've seen a ton of games at Frost Arena, and I will say, without doubt that the last ten minutes of the Denver game, and the scenario for the closing moments of both regulation and overtime, were the most amazing basketball thrills I have ever had at Frost. You can't draw the script any better.
I don't care if it is a one-game flash in the pan or not -- it was an OUTSTANDING, AMAZING WIN -- the first ever Jackrabbit victory over a full-fledged D-1 on the Frost Arena floor! We should all be celebrating! I have only watched one other such comeback (at Northern Colorado when the Jacks were 18 down with 8 minutes to play and won -- I was there, and it was thrilling to watch.)
I'm not an elite poster, and I certainly don't know basketball (technically) as well as some of you out there, but I know when a win is very special, and this was a very special win.
Does it make our season? No. But you know, just once in a while it would be good for even the most negative of our posters to rejoice in a great win for the program.
I also believe, strangely enough that Scott Nagy and Troy Larson are excellent coaches, and I seldom question their choice of starters, or their choice of whom they send in for whatever purpose (defense, shooting, attitude, etal). That doesn't mean I don't have my own opinion on occasion, but find it hard to believe that they don't have better insight into the players than I do.
P.S. One thing I am sure of is that Nagy has a reason, maybe good, maybe not, but a reason for everything he does. He didn't start Gilbert and Andre had a basic "break-out" game. He didn't play Frias, who has hurt the team badly at crucial times with turnovers, and it maybe is because he wants to make a point?
I believe Ben Beran can play at this level. I think Berte had close to a "break-out game" the other night when he was 7-for 9 (I think that's the right figure) and 14 points. I think Cadwell had his break-out three games ago, and Eric Heien his "break out" several games ago. All of those are good signs friends...GO JACKS!
2nd P.S. I love the Lady Jacks...fun to watch and very talented, very well coached. Yet they had a terrible game against Southern Illinois...it can happen to any time...period! GO LADY JACKS!

I heard from someone at the game that Andy's shot was late as well. However, I feel we were definitely owed one after the not-so-good officiating the past few games. We just got our make up call at a great time!

Hopefully we can get the ol' Uncle Mo train running down the tracks after this win!
