  • Promotion of SDSU Basketball

I along with others on this board have felt that SDSU could do more to promote sporting events to the student to increase attendance. Today I received an email promoting the games this weekend and I have to say this is a big step. I'm assuming the email was sent to all students and I wouldn't be surprised to see an increase in student attendance this weekend. I'm glad to see SDSU move in this direction.

I put this in the MBB section but the email promoted both MBB and WBB.

    Students on this board:

Tonight's home game with IPFW is your chance to impress the Athletic Dept with your presence and possibliy make them reconsider making you pick your tickets up early.(Even though personally, I don't see what the big deal is.)

1.) With the roads, there's not going to be a lot of people from outside of Brookings that are even going to be able to make it.

2.) Huge conference game...according to Coach Nagy at SF Staters...a more important game than Oakland this weekend.

3.) Nagy also mentioned at SF Staters that the Thursday night games are even more important to attend, because you already know that the Sat. Doubleheaders are going to be well attended. Also..."if you don't think the team feeds off the fans/students energy...you're wrong." I may have paraphrased a bit.

My point here is...with the roads outside of Brookings being the way they are, the Brookings community and ESPECIALLY the STUDENTS need to step up tonight!!

Students...it's time to Put up...or Shut up!

    Go Jacks!!
    SDSU...Passionate, Relentless, Champions.

I would receive emails like this all the time while at UW-Milwaukee. I felt kind of special getting emails from Bruce Pearl at the time.

Nice touch by the athletic dept.

Do students need to get tickets early for tonight's game or is that just the USD game?

A big student turnout for the games tonight and the remainder of this weekend would send an excellent message from the students to the Athletic Department: "We're here."

There are two basketball teams on campus that have a real chance in the conference races this year--but both, this year, definitely need the help of their fellow students if they're to make a real run at it.

The students can really, really help themselves, and help the basketball programs too, by turning out in serious numbers for these four games.

I would still like to see some radio advertising in Sioux Falls. I know this thread is more about student awareness, but I have grown a little tired of Augustana ads inviting people out to watch the "best college basketball in South Dakota".

I don't know about other students but I'm going with 5 other friends tonight. I think turnout should be good.

                    Re: Promotion of SDSU Basketball

Great turnout from the students last night!! Section was almost full and a bunch of them where standing up around the railings...at least they looked like students.

I felt bad that they had to watch that first half, especially the ones that had never attend a game yet, but hopefully what they saw in the 2nd was what will keep them coming back!!

I'd love to see about 5-10 of the students get the student section going a bit to start the game, but at this point, I just liked seeing that section full.

I've been saying this for about 4 years now:

Turn that Daktronics sound system UP for god's sake. You paid for it...use it!!!

                    Go Jacks!!

I will go on the record saying it has been louder this year than ever before. But I agree...crank it up!

How about the idea of viewing parties in the Student Union when the Jacks are on the road? Or better yet, free Summit TV accounts for students of Summit League schools?

Somebody set up the Summit TV account and get it on a projector. Although, the Athletic Dept. would probably want to contact the other school to make sure the game will actually be on...

This might work if the conference can convince the league schools and JumpTV to upgrade the picture quality to something that's would look decent on a screen size larger than three diagonal inches, which appears to be the current standard.

The sound system in the HPER was not installed or provided by Daktronics. The football system was provided and installed by Daktronics.
