As of last night's women's game, home attendance:
Men's basketball averaging 1,853 per game (5 games),
Women's basketball averaging 1,626 per game (3 games).
The men particularly have been hurt by bad weather as well as the disappointing season start. The game on Thanksgiving Day night drew 2,233, actually above average. What we're probably seeing here is the hard-core base of just under 2,000 Jacks fans. Develop a better on-court product, do a bit more marketing, and get a bit more luck with the weather and we should start seeing some pretty good crowds again in Frost. I'd say an average of 4,000 a game would be a good target to build back toward in the next couple of years. D-I average attendance in 2004-05 was 5,095, by the way.
We'll see tomorrow if Sunday afternoon women's games will find an audience. The first one against UW-Milwaukee only drew 1,015. A visit by the Crimson Tide really should draw more fans--I hope so. 2003-04 D-I women's basketball average attendance (the latest I could find on the NCAA site) was 1,572, so SDSU's already there on the women's side.
