    Re: Oru gdt

Not sure, but I think this is the first time the men have been over .500 in league play. Now need to get to 2 games over.

Okay, so SDSU just beat a team that beat a top 15 team.

I just want to serve notice that I'll be the first guy complaining come Monday, if SDSU's not receiving votes in the polls.

On account of the transitive property of college basketball, of course.

Happy New Year Jackrabbit men! Very excited to just get home and log on and see the Jacks win! That's a good ORU team SDSU just beat.

          Re: Oru gdt

Big stat from the game was SDSU outrebounded ORU but about 20 (last I saw it was 19). ORU is a nice sized team. Really liked their guard play (thought Morrison was out of control but the other guards I liked). Thought the game might start off like some of the others. Michael was a little crazy with the drive down the lane. The second half started with a couple of easy lay-ups and I was worried the defense from the first half wasn't going to carry over. But the guys picked it up. Have to say it again, REBOUNDING!!!!! What a job they did on the boards. I guess the final stats say Kai only had 10 rebounds (I actually thought he had more than that). Complain about his scoring, but those are huge rebounds. Look who tied for second in rebounds. Nate Wolters. Watch his free throw shooting next time you are at the game. The touch he has on his free throws is amazing. Nice win. Didn't know if it was a good idea to remind ORU with the trivia question during first half that SDSU beat them in last years tourney. Glad it didn't pish them off too much.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

In the post game press conference, Nagy stressed that he doesn't consider this a symbolic win. Said something like 'this doesn't mean any more than that we beat a good basketball team.'

Also said, 'doesn't mean every step we take this season will be a step forward, we may take two steps forward and one step back, but we are moving forward.' That kind of rational confidence is infectious.

Starting to think the Cal-Poly game was the low-point for this year's basketball team as it was for last year's football team.

Maybe SDSU should stop playing them in all sports, in case it's contagious.

Also, 6-0 when they out rebound, 0-8 when they're out rebounded should be a pretty important stat for the team. Fourteen games into the season, that should tell them 'hustle wins games'.

Most would think last night was the second win over ORU, but it was the third win. When was the first win? Answer would be in media guide or maybe in the game program.

Might want to start thinking of how you're going to word your complaining already because I don't think any votes are coming SDSU's way.

Great win. Another 10 or so of those in league play and we may be on to something.

On account of this not being a smack thread, and "discuss posts, not posters," I've simply extracted the most relevant part of this post.

Wasn't it in '68 or thereabouts? Back when ORU was NAIA?

It was indeed very, very strange. The ORU guy got the ball, right in front of his bench, and he just went down--he went down fast. I thought at the time that he'd slipped on something--a wet spot on the court, maybe. The ball popped into Wolters' hands, and he tore off down the court the other way, going in for a layup and drawing the foul. I looked back and the ORU guy was still laying on the floor in front of the ORU bench, grabbing for his ankle.

It seemed to me that that was the play that won it for SDSU--the rest of the game consisted of holding the Golden Eagles off from the free throw line--which the Jacks did.

If we were a big time program with lots of Vegas money on the line, I might think Jack Molinas had something to do with it.

Injuries are always regrettable, and I hope the young man is okay and we get to play him in their court. But could this be Injury Karma payback for the Baylor "injury" in last year's women's tournament?

Speaking of that. Coach Sutton was thinking the Jacks were trying to pull something like Baylor did. AC was sitting at the end of the bench with a trainer after the timeout. He was supposed to go to the line to shoot 2 free throws. Coach Sutton started walking out on the court thinking the Jacks were going to try to switch a different shooter. Of course, that isn't how the Jacks play so sit down coach.

Did anyone else think that every time ORU was fouled in the act of shooting, the shot went in? The Jacks didn't have a lot of fouls, but it seemed like all of them were for a chance at a 3 point play.
