    Re: Central Michigan GDT

This looks like a team with more depth than talent. They need to keep intensity and go deep in the lineup. They're deep enough so that if they play the charts like the women's team did they can wear some better first fives out. Just need to keep pushing and not let up.

Nagy said almost this very thing in the post game presser. 'We won't out-talent almost anybody that we play. That's not to say we dont have talent, we just don't have more than anyone that we will play' (may not be his exact words, but pretty close).

I think that is spot on. I don't think there is one player on this team that an opponent is going to fear, or feel like they have to game-plan around. Clint and Garrett both have the ability to get hot & go-off on someone, but neither has consistently demonstrated the ability to create their own shots. We just don't have that type of offensive weapon. At the same time, I think we have the opportunity to have a good TEAM. The difficulty it seems is getting everyone to understand their roles & fulfill them consistently.

I was impressed with our kids. Wolters imo is going to be a very good player and maybe one of the best before all is said and done. Right now, he seems he be lost at times, but what true freshman would not, plus the world of basketball seems to be much larger than St Cloud Tech. I dont think he likes all those hands in his face, something that probably did not happen very often at ST Cloud Tech. I am more than willing to give him several chances as I am confident he will adapt and really turn the corner skill wise.

I think Kai Williams and Garrett Callahan might be hurting a little from burn out and lets not forget, they had no leaders when they hit the court 4 years ago. The Bum, basketball program had a page entitled This Day in Men's Basketball History and it listed significant events that happen on December 19th:

"In 2006, at UMKC Win 79-71 Freshman Kai Williams played all 45 minutes, a career high scored 17 points and put the game away with a monster dunk in overtime to secure the 79-71 win. Garrett Callahan scored 16 points in the win, thanks to a 11 for 12 night at the free throw line. Callahan also tallied six assists in the win."

Something to think about. These two guys have had to take on a great deal their first year and they did a good job. Maybe they are just a little tired and thinking about their futures as they will not be students forever. They certainly do lead but maybe not up to the impossible standards that some fans have for them.

The bottom line is that we have a very good team, and they will get better with more games and more collective efforts and I saw some very good defense and some very unselfish assists tonight. Hang on folks this could be a very good season.

I agree with all the posts about the effort tonight. My player of the game tonight was Michael Palarca. It was encouraging to see Coach Nagy meeting Palarca at midcourt when coming to the bench for a timeout. They were both pumped.

                  Re: Central Michigan GDT

Jacks won this game tonight because of the great play/effort from Griffan Callahand and Dale Moss.

It would be nice to see Garrett play to the level he was at last year.

Also, our post defense is pretty bad. Should get better next year with the much needed size coming in.

Hopefully this win will spark the team and show them the intensity that is needed to win.

                      Re: Central Michigan GDT

I think Garrett and Kai are hurting physically more then they tend to admit.... Garrett's knee's/shins you can tell are hindering him and I think Kai's knee is bothering him more then most people think....

The problem or whatever you want to call it with Wolters is he plays like he is in a paper bag, really tight at times and almost like he doesn't know how good he is.... exact opposite of Palarca who sometimes thinks he can do anything (and tries too)

overal I thought they played really good tonight, still need to take less low % shots and more high % shots then they have been but the effort and intensity was there tonight....

                        Re: Central Michigan GDT

In his post-game comments on radio, Coach Nagy apologized (at least to Steve Imming) for giving such a negative interview after the Cal Poly game. (He sounded that night like he no longer knew what to say to players to motivate them and that he was on the verge of giving up.) He sounded much more pleased and hopeful after beating Central Michigan. Whatever the coach said to his players for this game worked. The Jacks were aggressive and played with confidence.
                        This space for lease.

                          Re: Central Michigan GDT

I think our post defense suffered a bit because we were working so hard on the perimeter to contain their solid three-point shooters. Lots of switching and helping out there left some mismatches or wide open guys underneath. I suppose at times you have to pick your poison.

Great effort by the guys last night. They seemed to feed off the energy levels of Grif and Dale and Michael. Those guys always seem to bring strong energy and I hope the team continues to look to them for that spark.

That kind of effort every night will lead to a lot of wins in the Summit League.
                          Holy nutmeg!

I guess I expect our post defense to struggle a bit. Cordova is undersized, and Fiegen is a true freshman.

And Dale Moss is my new favorite Jackrabbit player. (Warning: I'm a bit fickle, though.) Of all the guys, he's seems to me to be the one right now who's closest to being capable of taking over a game with his combination of hustle and athletic ability--that's what he did for about a minute or two in the first half. The guy was everywhere on both ends of the court.

I also am glad to hear that Nagy's making a serious effort to be more positive--I think his attitude, good or bad, rubs off not only on the team but on the fans, too.

                            Positive Nagy = good.

                            My sig line still applies.
                            "I think we'll be OK"

I would encourage everyone to go to gojacks.com and listen to Nagy's post game press conference. He had some interesting things to say, especially providing some perspective on Kai and Garret's careers.

It was one of the more interesting post game press conferences I've seen for some time.
