        Re: Denver GDT

After being down 7 late we got a steal, hit a trey and, down 2 w/ under :20 to go, had Fiegen open in the middle of the lane....a quicker pass and he probably goes up and gets an easy two, but the ball was lobbed, the defender catches up and fouls him. At that stage of the game he was 4-4 on FT and 4-4 on FG's. You hate to have a true frosh in just his 5th game at the line....missed the first, made the 2nd.

They go down, hit both FT's....we miss two treys badly....game over.

As someone posted lasted week, we are not going to get an at large bid, so we need to make sure things are worked out for conference play.

Poor defense. Denver was 6-9 on 3's in the 1st half, 9-14 for the game. The second they shot layups whenever they wanted. Overall shooting % for the game was 68 %. If we play defense like this all year we will struggle to make the Summitt League Tourney.

                    Re: Denver GDT

Got to Frost in time to catch most of the second half and here are a few of my thoughts when the clock ran out:
                    • We didn't seem fired up.
                    • The freshmen are very talented -- Fiegen and Wolters are as good as we've been hearing.
                    • That Princeton Offense or whatever it is makes for pretty boring basketball. What is this? A basketball version of boxer Muhammad Ali's "rope-a-dope"? Bore the defense until their eyelids droop and then slip a guy under the basket for an easy score. If more teams played that way, the NCAA would have to make some rule changes because nobody would watch basketball! (I'm not sure what my point it, after all, Denver won!)
                    • This team is going to be better but the question is will it rise to its potential? I think we'll soon notch our first road, conference win and when that happens, maybe we'll get a little swagger.
Tough day to be a Jackrabbit...have to think about how we've had many more 'great days to be a Jackrabbit' in the recent past.

The Princeton offense is what it is, a smart people offense, so not as athletic players can out smart athletic players to make up for the lack of athletisism..... Its an offense that is really hard to defend when ran right in the first place and what made it practically impossible to defend tonight was the fact that Denver made countless 3's in the first half, and they weren't wide open shots or anything, they were step back jumpers and hand in the face it didn't seem to matter....

With having a deep bench I think as Nagy said he needs to find the right sets for the right people and the right rotations....

As tired as I am of the "should'ves" in football, I'm even more tired of hearing the basketball team "didn't seem fired up".

                        Dammit guys, GET FIRED UP.

                          Re: Denver GDT

Denver is really tough to guard for 40 minutes. We did a good job for about 25 minutes last night.

Interesting lineup last night. Kai didn't play much in the first half. Fiegen started instead of Cordova. It actually seemed to energize the team, although they needed Cordova's scoring inside or it's a struggle to score. Fiegen played very well, though.

Our freshmen are really good. Wolters is REALLY good, and Fiegen and White also show flashes of how good they're going to be.

Anyway, Denver is an odd team to play, so it's tough to say what to take away from the game, other than 25 minutes of good defense isn't going to cut it.
                          Holy nutmeg!

I don't think so. It seemed to me that Coach Nagy might be sending a message to some players who haven't lived up to his expectations. I could be wrong (and I have no inside information). Kai looked fine (and played well) when he was in the game.

It was odd that AC, in particular, didn't start because he has played pretty well and played well against Denver (when he wasn't on the free-throw line). The Jacks need his size. Don't know what the story is with Kai. He's coming off a pre-season injury but seemed to play pretty well against Denver, even though he didn't start and spent quite a few minutes on the bench. As JJ said, coach may have been sending a message.
