    Re: East Carolina-GDT

    Nagy:

We are exposed as being soft, can't handle pressure.

Didn't make plays in crucial situations. Softness is hard to cure. Have to admit it and try to turn it around.

Ridiculous to be up 20 and not win. Everyone is disappointed. We knew coming it it would be a difficult tournament. We could go 3-0 or 0-3. He hopes we don't lose confidence as it was a tough tournament.

Lots of emotion in this game. Doesn't mind it getting chippy. Shows we have the emotion.

Played hard enough and well enough to play, just didn't make plays at end.

Outrebounded us 11 in 2nd half...goes back to our softness. We need to get better and it will be an emphasis.

Nate (Wolters) had a good tournament....11 pts, 6 assists, no TOs in this game. He will get nothing but better.

Few short days and then we have Denver on Saturday. They control pace and keep it slow so that will be a change.

Live by the 3 Die by the 3. its not because we could not shoot the 3, just not in clutch situations late in the game. What really stands out with it though is the ability to drive the lane for oppertunities to open up. not just pass around the wing. let the drive open up for shots and maybe get a few fouls called. get to the line. Would not mind seeing clint and Garrett getting more attempts at the line. Defense not good to give up that high percent but really the rebounding jumps out to me. Getting out rebound is hustle and toughness. if the other team is shooting a high percent, fine, but can still play hard and make a few more chances for your team by getting that extra rebound or boxing out better.

Would like to see the team go into AC more Need Engen to step up in side and give AC some rest and use Engen for fouls at his hight he should be able to keep some rebounds for us even if he doesnt score the points. Point guard play has been good with ball control. good shooting, just need to get more options close to the lane to get more rebounders. I still would like to see the bench getting in, can only help later in the year when we do have must win games, these 3 games were not must win but would have been nice wins. Must win games only exsist if it keeps you out of the con tourny or knocks you out of the tourny. Other wise they are important games, or big games to win, never a must win.

I got caught up in a project alot longer than I thought and missed this one. Ugh, frustrating.

I too question what this does to the kids confidence after losing one like this. They had to feel pretty good the first 4 games of the year, then to have a loss like this.

ECU had been terrible from the 3-pt line so far this year, then of course they hit 50%+ against us.

Is Kai hurt more than we know?

I see from the box score that AC had 4 fouls again. Did that play a role in the game? He HAS TO stay out of foul trouble.

Nate has been great. Wow. Would love to see someone else (other than the top 4) stand out.

I watched Denver play Montana. They run kind of a Princeton type offense. Alot of back-door cuts. They took it to the rack alot. Would love to play a zone and throw Engen in the middle. You worry about AC getting into foul trouble w/ all the penetration.

It definitely didn't help in the closing minutes. They got some easy baskets off penetration assists and AC couldn't control it. They started off really bad, made no shots, turned the ball over. But they are a lot more athletic than we are, and they just turned some press turnovers to their advantage down the stretch. This is the kind of team I think we would rather not play...herky-jerky, hands all over, quick. The quick start in the second half got them back into the game, and they were tough in the stretch. I think we will match up better against Denver.

I would argue they tried hard in the Wyoming and Purdue games, but did not give a good enough effort in the BC and ECU games.

IMO, this is the most talented team we've ever had, that's right, ever. Talented enough to win the Summit regular season and tournament.

So far, we've played teams from the Mountain West, DAC, Big 10, ACC, and C-USA.

By my count, we've played 4 respectable DI teams, beat one, played 2 very tough, and got beat soundly by another.

I'm not intentionally rationalizing our losses, but it helps to keep things in perspective.

After all our men's team has 1 more win than the women, and I don't see anyone questioning the women's talent. And you could easily argue that the men's schedule has been tougher.

I for one am tired of rationalizing. It's time to start winning.

Yes, I cannot believe we lost to a #7 Big 10 team, an ACC team, and a Conference USA team.

I think our next 3 games (Denver, IUPUI, WIU) will be a better barometer than the last 3 games.

Im not going to worry about being disappointed with this team only if, and a big if, they lose badly in confrence and do not make huge progress in the league standing. I dont care if we dont win it or win the con tourny, Im happy with progress still. the football team has been making progress from the start of the transition same as the womens team. we are on the brink but expecting such high improvements when this is really the first team that nagy as had that we should not have excuses for their results. If this teams is upper confrence and gets a win or two in the tourny i will be happy. Not thrilled, I want a con tourny champ, but our first year we got a good showing at home, but proved nothing on the road, won one game in the tourny.

So my question is what is the measuring stick? non confrence wins would be nice and huge wins, but for this program right now I feel it should remain focusing the improvement in confrence before we are dissapointed in non con play. the womens team on the other hand gives us a little to be upset with because they are losing non con games that we expect to win.

The name of the team you lose to isn't important when you blow a 20 point lead. That is an effort and execution problem on the Jackrabbits part. Now, if they learn from it and make adjustments to improve 3 losses in a pre-conference tourney will be of little consequence when you look at the big picture for a program like ours.

A big part of me agrees with what you have to say here, but blowing a 20 point lead against UMKC is probably a bit different than against ECU.

We played 3 of the toughest opponents we will play all season last weekend, and we played pretty tough for the most part.

Maybe I'm just trying to make myself feel better (I badly want this team to win), but losing 3 games to 3 teams better than any we'll likely face in conference (with the possible exception of Oakland) isn't going to get me in the dumps.

No dumps for me either. Looking forward to finally seeing a game in person on Saturday night. Really going to need discipline and sustained effort against a methodical Denver team that we should beat at home.

Okay, I'm still kind of in the dumps. Now, looking at the schedule prior to this year I thought it was very possible that we would be sitting here 1-4 right now. We probably shouldn't be beating ECU right now...or at Wyoming for that matter. But the fact that we had a win in the bag, that we blew a 20-point lead, to anyone, let alone a C-USA team, just irks me.
