You assume that Nagy prefers playing his starters 30+ minutes.

He does not. He needs a true 10 man rotation to play at the pace/intensity he wants.

You can argue that strategy if you like, but White & Fiegen need to be on the roster for that 10 man rotation.

As may have been noted before, a lot of AJ's system came from Nagy. Nagy has been, for a variety of reasons, confined to a very short rotation during the transition, but that's not how he'd prefer to play.

Players need to play defense too. AJ's best shooter gets bench time because of lack of defense.

I find it funny how AJ this and AJ that comes into a talk about the men's team! Men's basketball and women's basketball are not the same and men's teams usually get more minutes on average from it starters.

AJ has his own section on this site!

Btw: not everyone that steps on the floor has to be a top defender! Some players are just flat out scorers and you ac cept the fact that they may at times not be great on the defensive end!

          Citation, please?

At any rate, AJ comes up because Nagy's teams the last few years have not resembled the teams he coached during the 90s. AJ's teams, recently, have borne more of a resemblance to Nagy's old squads than the transition era teams have.

Nagy doesn't want Callahan & Williams to leave this year, and have White and Fiegen playing as freshmen next year. Better for Fiegen & White to play 10 minutes or so this season, than having them start next year as redshirt freshmen.

Plus, playing Fiegen & White keeps them a class ahead of Dykstra & Heemstra, and helps Nagy avoid having an unbalanced distribution of graduating classes (a la NDSU graduating 4 starters last season).

unbalanced classes is the least of our concerns! Also, NDSU really sacrificed going to the Big Dance and taking Kansas to the wire and being one of the better games of the tournament!

Giving a player as a true Freshman 10 minutes a game for 30 gameas or 300 minutes for the year, can be reached the folowing year by Christmas before conference really begins. Just my opinion!

For the record, I like what the future holds and would love the future to get some players more minutes when we have minutes to give. We willl have a nice year either way! We just simply need a BIG that can play as a true BIG!

Well, they didn't take Kansas to the wire anymore than SDSU took Purdue to the wire. They played them tough, though. I watched that game.

Further, I would rather SDSU be a power year in and year out than a one year wonder (although NDSU should improve from this year to next).

That's going to mean making sacrifices most years. BTW: I'd guess Nagy wants his top 5 to be good for 25-30; with the reserves running 15-10.
