  • FCS broadcast

I tried the FCS broadcast last night but could not get connected. Media Player would open and then immediately an error window would pop up stating that the connection to the server could not be made. I contacted the support desk and spent the next hour and a half trading emails with things to try - but no luck. Did anyone else try the broadcast and what was your experience?

Anyone else experience a problem like this before and found the solution?

    Thanks.

    Re: FCS broadcast

I assume you mean Fox Broadband, I tried it and once I got it to work, it worked pretty well. The site ran really slow on my computer through the billing phase and into opening the media player window. I had to go back to the reconnect site at least 2 times, put in my transaction number, last name and last four of my cc number.

I got it to work, but wasn't really impressed.

On a side note, if google wants to make money with youtube, they need to start to get some of these contracts and stream live sports video. Every one I've seen is terrible, and I've seen Fox broadband, jumptv, cbs (the best I've seen), etc and all of them seem to be quirky. I haven't tried espn 360 yet, maybe that's better, but you can't get it in Sioux Falls.

      Re: FCS broadcast

The FCS server was overloaded for that game.

Also, find a friend in Brookings or Tea that will let you use their ESPN account--enable remote access from it and you can watch ESPN360 on Midcontinent.

It's okay. Not great. They run an incredibly short rotation of commercials that get incredibly and I mean INCREDIBLY obnoxious in short order. And some of the commercials are significantly louder than the program. Selection of games is very impressive, though.

Also the difference between Google Video/YouTube & CSTV, JumpTV, etc. is that Google stores videos on their server for on demand viewing. CSTV etc. have to maintain live streaming feeds from various locations.

It's much easier to run a YouTube type service than a CSTV (CBS) type service.

I realize it is a big difference between YouTube type hosting service and streaming live sports. But if anybody has the resources to make a quality, dependable product, its google, and they are having a tough time monetizing youtube. I haven't been overly impressed with any of the streaming sports providers (although NBC does a pretty good job on Sunday nights).

Well, gee, I wish they'd start.

Seriously, though, it's not an arena I suspect Google wants to get involved in, due to the up front cost, the fact that they'd have to market heavily to get schools to sign up, etc.

              Re: FCS broadcast

I had very good luck with the internet connection last night from FCS broadband. I only had to reconnect once and that was during halftime. Other then that there were maybe a couple times where it lagged a bit but that is to be expected with an internet connection. Also I felt it was very good quality. If you tried to use Firefox it didn't work so maybe try using Internet Explorer tonight for the big game against BC. After last nights performance, I'm expecting nothing less then a win. Lets keep it going rabbits!!
