Early start on this thread, or sure, but this is a VIG - Very Important Game.
For three reasons:
1. An early chance to test against the best.
2. The first time in at least five seasons to build on early-season success. 2-0 has a nice sound. Sometimes it's tougher to build on success than it is to overcome loss.
3. Sets the tone for the rest of the tournament. A win in this classic is eminently possible, and would be a big boost; more than a win is not out of the question and would be a huge trend-setter for the next 25-plus games.

Not that it means anything but some reporters have Kansas, Michigan State, Kentucky and PURDUE in the Final 4 with Texas right there also!

I was looking at the ESPNU channel schedule and I think they may have the SDSU - Purdue game on TV. At least here on the west coast. They are showing a Puerto Rico Tip-Off BB game at 5:30 PST. They don't list the teams, but that is the time the game is. Anyone else see this game on ESPNU schedule?

Anyone else here call Purdue "Purdon't"? I have nothing against the school personally, but I picked it up from my buddy who is a Notre Dame fan and it's kind of has a nice ring to it

When I worked there, I hear that a lot from other faculty members. It's a great university, though. The university's annual budget is larger than the budget for the entire state of South Dakota. Amazing place, academically. Top-notch engineering, aerospace, and veterinary programs. And great humanities and arts, too. It's probably one of the top 20 or 25 public universities in the country.

I've got a funny feeling about this game. Not that we knock off the #7 team or anything...but that we keep it interesting much longer than anyone other than SDSU fans expect.

Not true.

For 2009 the system budget for Purdue's main campus and the Purdue operated chunks of IUPUI, Purdue Calumet, Purdue North Central, and IPFW is $1.1B. Purdue's main campus has a budget of $873M(1)

South Dakota's budget for 2009/10 is $3.5B.(2)

The BOR budget for 09/10 is $616M(3)

For '09, Purdue's system enrollment is 74,319(4) @ $1.1B budget

For '09, the BOR system enrollment is 33,779(5) @ $616M budget

No doubt, Purdue is a good school--IMO a model of a true land grant university.

But it's not that big, and funding per student is not head and shoulders above South Dakota.

UGH! We HATE the Purdon't thing. It was created mostly by ND fans and it really annoys the crap out of us.

I'm all for hatin' on Purdue . . . after we beat them.

And not on this radically premature game thread (which actually amuses me to no end.) I can't remember the last men's basketball game thread that started three days before the game. (And, as I occasionally am, I'm too lazy to go back and look.)

I actually see Purdue as just a fellow Land-Grant school. Kind of like NDSU, but without a dome.
