Looking pretty flat at the moment. Mayville out hustling us (12-8 rebound advantage Mayville).

          42-26 SDSU, Haftime

          Thoughts:
Lots of different lineups played. Finally started to get the ball to Cordova in the latter part of the half, as nobody on Mayville can guard him. Mayville is a scrappy team that came to play.

          Top 3 Scorers
          Cordova - 12
          Garrett - 12
          Griffin -5

                      89-56 Jacks, Final

Thoughts: Freshmen looked better in this game than in the Dakota State Exhibition. Engen had a nice dunk. White stood out as far as non starters is concerned (he had either 4 or 5 threes). Wonder why Rader's time has been so limited, thought he looked good in the exhibition season and showed some good inside moves in his limited time. Overall, kind of played like an exhibition, but good to see some of the inexperienced players get a little time before the schedule starts heating up.

Im going to go out on a limb here and say nagy is happy for a win, two things are going to stick in his craw. First, rebounding. Only out rebounding by 2 is not good enough. Granted it was a game that got some experience for the season, but if they our only out rebounding mayville by 2 its gonna be harder out rebouding oakland and ORU. second, letting mayville shot almost 41 percent for the game. thats just to high. Not even regarding the score 41% is to much anytime. Not trying to sound like a hater, but those were just the 2 things that stood out to me. Liked hearing that playing time was spread around and seemed it didnt matter who was out there that sdsu was still playing at a good level. not great, its still early, but they seem to be gelling as a team well and utilize the talent they have.

honestly I don't know if Nagy is ever happy.... I remember the interview after losing to a ranked Butler team by 16 or so, and Nagy says that he didn't bring the team ready to play and they should of won.... that was when they were suiting up like 8 guys....

I think we better change it two let's go 1-0 this half week since there are two games each week.

                              Terry's article from the Argus:

                              SDSU men rout NAIA Mayville

                              Terry Vandrovec - November 17, 2009
BROOKINGS - Judging by the number of minutes logged by freshmen, it looked like South Dakota State coach Scott Nagy had decided prior to tipoff to let the rookies ride it out against NAIA Mayville (N.D.) State in the home opener Monday night.

But he insisted afterward that wasn't the plan. No, playing time was handed out based on merit in a 89-56 trouncing of the Comets before 1,304 fans at Frost Arena.

Four freshmen combined for 28 points, seven rebounds and six assists in 57 minutes, leading the Jackrabbits to their largest margin of victory since 2004 and their first 2-0 start in six years.

"We had some guys who weren't playing great," Nagy said. "That's what we talked about at halftime - you better be ready when you get your chance on this team, because there's a lot of talent. I'm not going to spend a lot of time worrying about if I'm hurting feelings."

                              What a difference depth makes.
