  • SDSU Men's RPI

Mid-Majority has us currently at #17.

Yes, early, yes, bogus, but I'll take it for now. Mid-Majority is an excellent site for D-I basketball info, especially below the "major conferences."

    Here's SDSU's page over there:

With the loss to Illinois, we've slipped to #49 (Pomeroy & Mid-Majority).

        HEY MJA

I thought the goatee was going to be good for some wins this year. I noticed on TV last weekend that the goatee was conspicuously missing!

        What gives?

I forgot to ask him last time we talked. I did notice that, though. He may have gotten carried away when shaving his head and mistakenly shaved the goat. I'll get to the bottom of it.

SDSU's #64 as of this Monday. We're still in the Big Dance!

(Um, well, we might make the field if we were actually eligible, and if the RPI actually meant anything this early in the season, but what the heck, it still sounds pretty good).

If we finish with an RPI under 200, it will be a very, very good year, I think.

              Re: SDSU Men's RPI

RPI as of today is #226. Finishing with an RPI in the 100's is still a definite possibility.

So far, the teams we've played are a combined 52-36. Things get a bit easier for the Jacks as the next five opponents are a combined 21-21.

Hopefully we'll see continued development from our young Jacks. Every win will be a struggle, but you have to trot out that old "one game at a time" mantra. We need to beat a couple of teams we're "not supposed to beat," like Denver.

From an RPI point of view, we're underdogs to everyone in the next five games except Montana State, whose only D-I win is against hapless Northern Colorado.

Manhattan put a scare into Syracuse, losing in overtime at the CarrierDome. A winnable game, but by no means certain. We'll need a big effort to beat the Jaspers in the Arena.

Minnesota: We'll have to see. I'd settle for a competitive game, but once the ball goes up, anything could happen.

Butler: Another game like Manhattan that's winnable, but again we'll need a big effort. Hopefully we can beat either Manhattan or Butler "at home." If we get both, that's reason to be deliriously happy.

Utah Valley State: they've got Arizona State's pelt on their trophy wall. Dangerous team. Glad our first game aganst them is at home.

Montana State: It's at Bozeman. SDSU might be favored on paper going in, but this is another dangerous game. (Aren't they all, nowadays?)

An RPI in the high 100's is a good goal for this team. Competitive games against Manhatten, Butler and Minnesota will give this team the confidence it needs to finish the second half of the season strongly. Every game will be a battle.

Hey Filbert or 89Rabbit or whomever! I am sure you have heard from others, but the gorabbits.com site has been taken over by a "rabbit" site. I was lucky to get on the board by GOGGLEing SDSU football and it listed the D1AA site. My e-mail address is onesys@itctel.com. If you can, send me a message.

                    jacks#1fan,

This board didn't have a direct relationship with gorabbits.com. So I don't have any answers for you as to what is going on over there. They did link to this message board and I do believe that some of the posters from this board ran that site. Sorry, I couldn't be of more assistance. Perhaps someone else can help.

                      89,
is there anyway we can change the domain name of the board to something a little easier to decipher...?

Not really because this board piggy backs on to a site dedicated to I-AA football. At least that is my understanding. Tony would be the guy to ask as he is a computer guy and the admin. I am just the moderator.

                          Re: SDSU Men's RPI

                          Today's RPI: #216.

The average RPI of SDSU's schedule: 172.25 (down slightly from the pre-season RPI average of 167.62).

Based on RPI alone, SDSU "should" win vs. Montana State (277), Utah Valley State (twice, 239), Central Florida (254!), IPFW (twice, 272), Texas-Pan American (twice, 297), to finish with 11 wins (plus one win you have to expect vs. SW Minnesota for a total of 12.

RPI-expected losses, to: Butler (68), NDSU (twice, 190), Idaho State (115), Utah State (42), Middle Tennessee State (31), San Diego State (169) and CSU Fullerton (203), for 17 losses.

12-17 in your first full year of D-I? I'd rather we were at .500 but with this year's team, an improvement over last year's 10-18 has to be seen as huge progress.

                            Re: SDSU Men's RPI

                            Today's RPI: 219.

Average RPI of our opponents played to date: 144 (including opponents whose current RPI's are: 8, 14, 35, 36, and 40.

Average RPI of the remaining opponents on the schedule: 207, with the highest being 64, 76, 108, then NDSU at 168.

The schedule is getting significantly easier, and hopefully our young team is getting better. Although I'd love to go with Andre Gilbert and say that I expect to win the remaining 14 games, I'll instead say that getting 8 or 9 wins out of the next 14 games would be a successful first full D-I season.

Getting a win in Fargo against the Bison would be a fantastic first step.
