    This is almost a repeat performance of the first half of the mens game against Central Florida. If we take care of the ball, stop giving up layups, and force a few more turnovers we can get back into this game.

      Brown 72, SDSU 64.  

      Brown shot 72% in the first half....tough to beat.  SDSU closed to single digits in the last minutes of the game.

        Brown coasts to victory over Jacks

        PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Brown University used torrid shooting to jump out an early double-digit lead and held South Dakota State at bay the rest of the way for a 72-64 victory in women's basketball action Sunday afternoon.

        The Bears improved to 8-7 overall, while SDSU dropped to 10-8 on the season.

        Brown, which never trailed, connected on 16 of its first 18 shots from the field and forced 16 first-half Jackrabbit turnovers. The Bears built a 15-5 advantage at the 14:38 mark and led by as many as 17 in the first half. Brown finished the first half 18-of-25 from the field, 72 percent, to take a 45-29 lead into the intermission.

        The Jackrabbits took better care of the basketball in the second half, committing only five turnovers to 13 by the Bears, but Brown had an answer for every run as SDSU played catch-up the rest of the way. It wasn't until the final 70 seconds of the game that the Jackrabbits trimmed the deficit to single digits.

        Brown finished the game at 57.4 percent from the field, making 27-of-47 field goal attempts as the Bears recorded 20 assists. Brown also converted 13-of-17 free throw attempts, 76.5 percent.

        Colleen Kelly scored a game-high 24 points on 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range, while Sarah Hayes added 20 points, nine rebounds and a game-high six assists for the Bears. Annesley O’Neal contributed 11 points.

        Heather Sieler led the Jackrabbits in scoring for the second consecutive game, tallying 15 points. Christina Gilbert added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Megan Vogel posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, including eight boards on the offensive end as the Jackrabbits held a 33-28 rebounding edge.

        SDSU relied heavily on the three-pointer against the Bear zone defense, but only converted 8-of-32 attempts, 25 percent. Overall, the Jackrabbits were 21-of-58 from the field, 36.2 percent. At the line, SDSU made 14-of-19 attempts, 73.9 percent.

        The Jackrabbits return home Thursday to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Frost Arena.
