  • Help is on the way

    Hey MilwaukeeJacksAlum, i have something that will make your heart skip a beat! The talk has been cross-over atheltes between football and track, well try this one on for size. Football/Basketball cross-over??

    Yes, it's true. I recently talked with someone close to the Jacks Football program and "The Help" is in the form of SDSU Tight End #88 Chris Wagner. The Hometown Product is 6-7 253lbs and actively plays amatuer basketball. Coach Nagy contacted one of the football coaches to ask for permission. The football coaches gave Nagy the ok and Chris practiced with the team today.

    GO STATE!!!

    I remember a few years ago when Steve Heiden, Stern Akin and a few other FB players played in a bball game.  Can't remember who else but maybe one was MJA?

    Wagner should at least be able to push people around down low. I am excited for him. This should be a wonderful experience.

      If I remember correctly the kicker, Brett Gorden, scored in one of those games.

        SDSU played Gustavus Adolphus. Evidently, some of the "regular players" did not adhere to team rules on a trip. Coach Nagy benched them for the next game which was against Gustavus. If I recall correctly, the coach for Gustavus was not happy as his team ended up losing to a patchwork team of recruited basketball players and football players.

          I hope and pray Chris will make an impact, as we dont have much of a peg to hang our hat on at this time. Chris has been pretty decent as a TE so hopefully this will translate into some good basketball.

            I agree with everything above, however, the main point is that he doesn't get hurt. It will be exciting to watch and exciting for Chris, but nothing's going to salvage our B-ball season. We need him to be ready for Spring Ball.

              I remember Gordon and Heiden playing for sure. I know there was at least one other guy. One was not me. I was coming off my second torn MCL. Gordo was probably the best pure shooter in college his last 2 years of school, and that included the basketball players. He had "in the gym" range. He was our secret weapon during the basketball v. football pickup games. When he entered the game against Gustavus he cranked like the ball was on fire every time he caught it. He did make one or two, much to delight of the crowd (particurlarly the football players in attendance).

                Maybe the Brookings tie will make sure fans show up tonight in support...

                  Re: Help is on the way

                  This is really a stern test for the entire SDSU community.

                  We need to pull together:

                  To support our team;
                  to support the (alleged) victim;
                  to support our school.

                  I hope people will come out tonight, and not stay away. Staying away helps no one.

                  Once again, I'll point out that the Jackrabbit players on the floor tonight are not accused of anything. They're victims of this incident, too. They don't deserve to be judged guilty by association, any more than the two accused players deserve to be judged guilty before they've even been charged with a crime, let alone convicted in a court of law.

                  This is a bad situation for everyone. My attitude is that staying away from the game tonight only makes the bad situation worse.

                  SDSU, the entire institution, needs your help tonight. Will you turn your back now?

                    hate to say it, but there will be those that punish the innocent tonight and stay away....

                      Rumor is that Mike Steffen has also been contacted about playing as well.

                            Those oldtimers on the board will remember an eerily similar situation at the University of Minnesota in 1986 after the infamous Mitch Lee incident in Madison where some FB players took to the court. Jim Dutcher was soon gone. Not a BB fan but don't expect the same result for Nagy.
