    Re: Lineup prediction.....

We need to red-shirt all the freshman except for the one that stands out! If the freshman do not get 15 minutes a game they need to red-shirt! Bottom line we are deeper than we ever have been but we need to red-shirt good young players!

    palarca
    callahan
    sargent
    williams
    cordova

DOES NOT MATTER WHO STARTS, IT IS WHO FINISHES THE GAME THAT COUNTS!

This is also my prediction for the starting line-up however could see Moss inserted for Sargent. Plenty of quality depth behind for them for the first time in the D-1 era!

I could see Moss in there as well, but I'm not sure he's consistent enough at this point to be a full time starter. He might be better served to coming off the bench. Coach can still play him big minutes when he's having a special night. Moss can do things with dribble penetration that no one else on this team can.

Some notes from today's media day at :http://twitter.com/bkgsregsports

Picked to finish 4th, the men look to finish higher. "If you're not picked first, why be happy with it." Kai Williams can end up No.2 in the career rebounding list. Nagy high on the experience edge. Very good freshmen class, Wolters could start
Preconference play is key to position self for the men. 3 of 4 frosh will see lots of time

              Re: Lineup prediction.....

I would say Nagy is going to start the more seasoned guys. I have a hard time believing Wolters is going to start at the point as a true freshman early in the year unless he is lighting up the world in practice. As he gets more time, as long as he isn't turning the ball over too much, he may start when the meat of the conference schedule starts.

              I'll go with:

              Moss
              Sargent
              Ga. Callahan
              Kai
              AC

AC's going to have to log some big minutes (again) as the center depth is still minimal and I'm not convinced Peterson is a guy to rely on for some productive minutes. Fiegen may get some good minutes to relieve AC. Except for Benson, the conference really doesn't have any true, productive centers. And AC held his own and then some against Benson last year.

I think Palarca's minutes are going to be down unless they're playing a PG who is undersized. And even that is sketchy because Jonathan Jones blew him away last year, but he did do that to a lot of guards no matter their size last year. I think Wolters will eat a lot of his minutes. His offensive upside is a lot larger, it's just a matter of his defensive abilities.

But we know Nagy likes to tweak the starting lineup quite often.

The last 10 minutes of the game is still the key. If the guy is playing these minutes, Nagy trusts him to be able to close things out. I'm ready to see Garrett Callahan come through on a regular basis like he did against Oral Roberts in the tournament last year late in the game. Give him the ball and let him take over, he's a senior, it's time.

                Re: Lineup prediction.....

Can't remember where I heard it, but I think Nagy made a comment to the effect that Wolters will help our defense as much as he'll help our offense. He's a complete player.

We haven't really had a legit complete player at point guard since we started the transition. If Wolter's can fill that void we'll be winning alot of the close games we came up short in last season.

I agree with were you are at with the starting lineup and the only difference would be if Wolters starts. A point guard that can drive, dish, and shoot all three effectively is something we haven't had for a while and will make every player on the team better. Wolters may be that guy and if he is defensively solid it makes it easier to overlook the typical freshman shortcomings.

Moss is a player that I love on the court. He needs to see minutes with his athleticism. He is a hybrid in my mind. He's capable of bringing the ball up but then needs to become a slasher and be around the bucket. Maybe a Casey Estling type with mad athletic skills. What do you think?

Other than that, what I am excited about is having depth. We may be undersized but we are going to be deep. That will allow Nagy to get back to 40 minutes of hell where the Jacks run and run and run and run but yet keep our own players fresh at the end. How many games did we have last year where we were right there at the end? Most of them! They were out of gas down the stretch. Mark my words, that changes this year!!!

The talent level is also going up which means that opponents can't just focus on taking one player out on defense. They are going to have to play more players honestly. That is where Wolters could really be the X-factor in distibuting the ball.

It would also be kind of cool if the team can remain fairly healthy.

I'm usually one of the most optimistic people on here when it comes to MBB. Not sure what the overall record will be but I think this team is going to be a lot of fun to watch. I really do see them getting better as the year goes on with a peak at tournament time as the young players gain experience and the team comes together. But, I guess that could be said about every team in the country. The pieces to the puzzle just seem to be coming together.

                    Re: Lineup prediction.....

After hearing the Summit League Media Day replay I would not be at all surprised to see Wolters as a starter, as Nagy talked about him during almost his entire session. Even if he doesn't start, I bet he'll be getting more minutes than whoever is starting over him and will eventually be the starter fairly early in the season.

My Line up prediction to start the season:

                    Wolters
                    Sargent
                    Callahan (Garrett-type)
                    Williams
                    Cordova
If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.

                        Re: Lineup prediction.....

While I don't doubt that Wolters will log a ton of minutes this year, the thought of a true freshman running the point concerns me quite a bit. IMO, its the most important position on the court, and I'd be inclined to go with a more veteran player at the beginning and ease him into it as the season progresses.

We know what Cordova, Williams, the Callahan's, Moss, Sargent, and Palarca bring. I think the success of this season will depend on the following players:

                        Wolters
                        Fiegen
                        Engen
                        Pederson
                        Cassaday

If those 5 contribute in the minutes they get, we could be in for an exciting year.

Don't see much love from any of you for Chad White...but he's a player!! He is an excellent passer, can bring the ball up at 6-6, can dish off, shoot and drive. He's got a little knee problem right now, but if that gets straightened out, he is going to get some minutes.

There's a good chance White will bee a good player for State, but this season he will be competing for time with Williams, the Callahans, Sargent, and Moss. I just don't see him taking many minutes from those five. With Williams and G. Callahan graduating next spring, White will be much more important next season, IMO.

The knee problems might be "little", but they don't seem to be going away either (for the last 3 years). IMO, he'd be better off red shirting this season, get healthy, and next year play at 100% when we will need his skills even more.

Rader may be a bit of an unknown since he didn't play around here for high school. We could sure use contributions from him because he has decent height. The word I've heard is he that he is a pretty good rebounder and a decent 3-point shot.

He might be a logical backup to Kai.
