UMKC to forfeit SDSU Mens BB game

According to the UMKC fans page today, that school will have to forfeit games against SDSU and Centenary for using an ineligible player!

Another way to lose a Summit League road game. Have to play against a team with an ineligible player!

This may belong under the Summit League, I will leave that to our Leaders.

It means we "only" have 19 losses this past year.....AND.....we aren't winless on the road in Summit play. Hey, techinically it's true!

Our record remains the same, they get the losses, but any team that they played doesn't get any credit. Our record remains the same.

I'm confused. I'm sure there's a simple explanation and I hope someone with more knowledge can un-confuse me ...

If UMKC gets the losses, why do we have to have losses for those games on our record as well? If we can't get credit for winning those games, why not take the games off our record and consider them a "no decision" for SDSU?

Think that is the way its always been done if its done after the fact. Doesn't change the outcome, just the record of the offending team. Think that is what was done with FSU in their football team and the UM basketball teams. Frankly that is the way I would rather have it. We didn't actually win the game on the scoreboard but they still need to be punished in some way shape or form. It would feel dirty if thats how we got a win on our record.

Thanks for the explanation. That certainly does make sense. And you're right: it would be the wrong way to get that first conference road win. It'll be much more satisfying to pick it up for real next season on the court!
