The one thing that has stood out about NDSU, is that maybe the some of the red shirt freshman they have are not outstanding and real flashy, but they do know how to play as a unit, they pass, they assist, they play a tight defense, they know were their other four teammate are all the time. This is what is missing with the current Jacks. The Bison,  too have had an season ending injury in a player Lunde. We have to wait to see how he will add to their equation.  Plus they got four guys on the red shirts. I wished SDSU program was at the same level. Right now despite last nights win, we are about a year and a half behind.

Other than Holdren, we have had no one come to campus ready to play D1 ball. We have guys that need a year of red shirt, and then the following year we dont know if they are going to cut the mustard or not. This tells me we have settled for the best choices. I  do question the recruiting networks used and have we used all the contacts available? If we had we used all those contacts, we would not be in the mess we are in now. I wonder if we are even close in getting the best out of the state of Iowa.

BTW only Cadwell is now playing of the three you mentioned. I think he is a very good player, but holding in a red shirt status last year was a big mistake.

I am not make all these choices and decisions, but the people who are very accountable for their actions. I still get my gov annuity and SS check so I dont have to worry about these decisions, but by gosh I feel like these decisions should be questioned and 226 wins do not warrant a free pass.

I can't hold back any longer. SDSUFAN I have read your posts recently both here and on Bisonville and you have certainly taken off the rose colored glasses and gone deep in the other direction. How in the hell can you say we are 1 1/2 years behind the Bison? I was at the game last night and too be frank was not that impressed with the young Bison and less so when our depleted team actually beat them. I would not trade Cadwell or Holdren for any of the Bison players. What would we have done to the Bison with our compliment of players last night? I think it would have been a Jack blowout similiar to what they did to us in Fargo. I'm not sure what will happen to Gilbert, but if he comes back I think will have 3 productive years. Why was holding cadwell back a mistake? How do you know he was physically or mentally to play last year. If NDSU is the measuring stick they are redshirting every freshman player like we did with the exception of Holdren. I respect NDSU and what they have done, but they are hardly the DI team I would model. How do you or anyone else know the four SDSU redshirts aren't DI material or the 2 incoming freshman won't light the world on fire. Guess what NDSU doesn't have a clue either if there Redshirt freshman can play at the DI level. I have questioned the Jake Wenig's,Landon Scott's of the world and the fact they did not pan out, but don't think for a minute that this doesn't happen to every other institution at one time or another. I'm not sure how the love fest with NDSU has come about or the sudden lack of confidence in our coaches to recruit. I'n not ready to claim we turned the corner last night, but I'm seeing signs this team and coaching staff are figuring some things out and we will be much better next year!

No, I didn't expect a great - winning - season. I did expect to the the team improve. It did improve when two players left the team. (Averaging over 20 tos and few assists)(Now averaging low teens in tos and teens in assists) These two stats are very telling.

Maybe some of us have forgotten that the move to D-I was about the long term and not the immediate future.

I have a solution to make all of us happy. Let's field two teams, one can play D-II to make those fans happy and the other can play D-I to make the other fans happy.

            Re: Is Nagy gone?

honestly i think the jacks should have had about 12 wins by now. But the prideful nature of the team and the turnovers have beat us down. They get their heads too big and try to take over the show. Although Caddy, Holdren, and Beran have shown us that they can single handedly push us to victory, but most of our wins are when we have a couple of guys in double figures. We got the talent and support, we just don't have the inner lining that has taken past teams to the top.

NDSU has had a great year, but has not played near the schedule the Jacks have.

                Re: Is Nagy gone?

It seems like you want to condemn the coaches at SDSU for redshirting players and you say SDSU is behind NDSU in recruiting. Why aren't you condemning NDSU for redshirting their players last year? And blaming coaches for what happens off the court is total cr@p. Is Nagy supposed to have tracking collars on his players or security to keep tabs on them. He can only trust his players to do the right thing. Why not blame the parents, fellow students, fans, or alumni while you are at it? So State doesn't have any talent? Then NDSU lost to a totally talentless team. Can you really praise a team who lost to a team with no talent?
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

Be thankful we are not playing NDSU again tonight nor are we playing 3 out of 5. If we where the 1.5 year program progress would be very evident. The redshirting at NDSU worked for them, but they did not have a depleted roster like SDSU had two years ago.
If Larson has done so great with his Iowa connections, why dont we have more Steve Holdrens? Oh thats right we got to wait until we are eligible for the big dance. :-/
These Morningside type players will do just fine for now.
Is it waiting or is it stalling? Or better yet is it a cover up of the fact that I can not find good D1 players. ???

If our recruiting is so great why do we need to red shirt?
Let them play. Trying to win D1 games with walk ons, practice players and anyone else on campus is insane.
Its time to get some good recruits. If our current staff can't do it, its time to get a staff that can.

I answer this in the other post. NDSU did not leave D2 with the same depleted roster that SDSU did. They had room to do redshirting we did not. We needed people who could play immediately. Holdren is the only one that was played.

Always an excuse. How come they took care of Idaho State, Idaho and Montana State? SDSU lost to all of these except Idaho which we did not play. Also they beat Denver and UMKC with larger margins than SDSU.

Total garbage about NDSU being 1-2 years ahead of SDSU. NDSU have 2 players on their team that can be difference makers - Woodside and Smith. Smith is gone after next year. NDSU is overrated. Congrats to NDSU for winning in Madison, WI but Wisconsin is not going to win many games shooting 22% from the floor - the Bison did not even play that well as they had 24 turnovers in that game.

There were several posters on Bisonville that were calling NDSU a middle of the pack Big Ten team and how Minnesota was weery of playing the Bison next year. What a joke. Both NDSU and SDSU have a long ways to go to be a competitive DI team every game.

As far as NDSU's schedule this year - it was weak. While the Bison have had a better year - how many wins would they have had if played the same teams as SDSU? Not many more and a losing season. Would you consider them years ahead of SDSU then?

Going into next year - assuming all players are back. SDSU has got to be considered the favorite against the Bison. Cadwell and Holdren both back along improved post play make next year a very different year. This doesn't mean that SDSU will sweep the Bison next year but it sure doesn't mean that NDSU is lthe better team either.

I know there are many who feel that anyone with a pulse has some sort of Constitutionally-guaranteed right to say the first thing that jumps into their mind when on this message board. Okay, fair enough...here's my two cents worth:

The few malcontents and conspiracy theorists (geez, SDSUFAN, you sound like a nut sometimes) can fall off the edge of the earth as far as I'm concerned. The Nagy supporters are legion and are ignoring the tiny group of you who are trying to start rumors without substance.

I'm done reading these threads that want to speculate when it's wayyy too early in the D-1 transition game to justifiably engage in such speculation.

                              Re: Is Nagy gone?

Holy crap batman some people may be on the verge of losing their mind. No doubt the transition to DI has been a disaster but things will get better, they have too. Ranting about the mistakes of the last 2 years won't get us anywhere. Worrying about where NDSU stands won't benefit SDSU one bit.

I suspect Nagy's staff will look different next year and the biggest change may be his right-hand man. Not my decision to make.

As for Nagy's team, he will have a solid backcourt anchored by Holdren and Cadwell. Hopefully Hornby can handle the point. Loney and Beran will need some help from the RS freshman and maybe, just maybe Bassett or Cordova. Thats up to Nagy.

Frustration over the way things have gone shouldn't result in despair about the future.

                                Re: Is Nagy gone?

NDSU lost a player averaging 9 minutes a game, 2 points a game, and just barely over 1 rebound a game.  How can you compare that loss to SDSU losing Holdren (almost 30 minutes, over 14 points a game and over 4 rebounds a game).  You would have to take out Andre Smith to come close to the same caliber player (Smith averages more rebounds but pretty similar numbers).  Try to tell me NDSU would have beat some of those other schools missing Smith or Woodside.

As for Coach Nagy, he's back next year.  I have faith in him.  I watch the redshirt kids in warm-ups and Engen is very athletic for a big guy.  This kid is going to be blocking a lot of shots in his 4 years here.

As for the underwear guy last night, it was pretty funny.  The announcer was trying to get the attention of security but none of them were paying attention.  It took an athletic department worker to go and get a police officer to come to the exit underwear man was leaving the court to finally do something.  People wonder why things happen at athletic events when this person had to bring a bike in the building and strip and no one noticed this.  I'm sure any fan in the south west section of the student seats got to see the officer deal with the individual.
