    Re: Cordova has big night

On the surface it seems we are light on guards for the future, but in reality if you look at it Cadwell(Redshirt Freshman),Gilbert (Redshirt Freshman), Hornby(True Freshman who is redshirting), Casey (Sophmore) we have a young nucleous. I also wonder if Yackley at 6'5 will see some time at guard next year. I'm not sure how much of Casey we will see in the future on the court. I think it all depends on how he continues to develop in practice and perform when given the opportunity to play. This is a great story and I hope this young man keeps working at it. I really think Hornby is our true point guard of the future with Cadwell at the 2. It will be interesting to see if in 2007 Nagy decides to recruit high school guards or persues junior college players. The guard postion is so important to having success at any level of basketball.

I'd find a way to get them both in my program especially if I'm a new DI school and they are my instate recruits.

We will only have 4 to offer in 2007, Loney is a Soph., correct? But you are right, very much a critical class in the move towards our tourney and conference futures.

          Re: Cordova has big night

I hope Zach Finley is a good post player.  Princeton scored 21 points the other night against Monmouth.  That was for the game!!!

That was the lowest scoring point total for a team since the inception of the three point line in 1986.  I know that Princeton loves to play defense and slow the game down, but you have to score to win.  They had 60 possessions for the game and had 19 turnovers.  They almost had more turnovers than points.

Tonight they scored 34 points against Stanford.  Stanford sucks this year and to only score 34 against them is terrible.  UC Davis beat Stanford (yes they beat them in football too).  Stanford alumn are pissed off around here for loosing to UC Davis in football and basketball.  Stanford has deep pockets and some booster will want heads to roll for loosing to UC Davis twice in one year.

Finley may get his Ivy League education, but he will have to pay some humility in scoring less that 50 points a night as a Tiger.  The old Princeton coach, Pete Carrill, was a master at winning low scoring games, but Pete is long gone and the Tigers have not made any noise in the NCAA tourney since.  I wish Finley the best at Princeton, he will get a good education at least.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Princeton a non-scholarship school? None of the Ivy-league schools offer athletic scholarships, do they? This has nothing to do with Zach Finley, just a question.

                Re: Cordova has big night

Yes the Ivy League schools are the last conference to not offer athletic scholarships (the Patriot was the only other but in recent years they have begun to offer scholarships). Finley had offers from Pacific and Boston University but choose to attend Princeton. He cancelled his visits to the other two schools and Yale because he basically had his sights set on playing at Princeton. Not sure if there was a National Letter of Intent that needed to be signed as there was no scholarship involved.

Heien is also a junior so there would be 5.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

Ahh, i did forget about Heien. However, i wouldn't assume he is on scholarship, but i could be wrong.

Thus, we would still be at four to give for 2007

Speaking of scholarships in '07; do you think that State will be going hard after some SD kids. There aren't any real horses in '07 such as Tviedt and Cordova. These are stats from Dakota Schoolers Blue (Younger) Team. I'm just adding stats of players I think that could make some noise this year or next year and become a prospect for State.

                          Peterka (5-11 G, Miller): 8ppg, 43% FG, 39% 3's, 3.6 Rbg, 6.5 Apg

                          Enos (6-7 F, Faith): 10Ppg, 54% FG, 23% 3's, 5.7 Rbg, 1.8 Apg

                          Krogman (6-1 G, White River, SOPH) 14.1 ppg, 45% FG, 34% 3's, 2.8 Rbg, 2.1 Apg

Ok I'll bite,,,,,,,,, SDSU is actively recruiting the three athletes listed above.

Adam Peterka would be a great fit as he's a posession type guard who is about distributing the ball first and then scoring 2nd.  He attended SDSU's camp this past summer and Coach Nagy & Larson have plans to get out to see him play this season, however he hasn't played yet due to an ankle injury sustained the last practice before their first game.  The injury is serious enough to keep him out of the first three weeks of the season.  Size is a concern and the ability to get into the lane to create some scoring is another concern.  Personally I feel he can handle the level of competition and is the best the state has to offer at this position for the 06 & 07 classes.

Luke Enos is also being pursued by SDSU and has had a solid start to his season.  He had 36 his first game and followed that up with 25 in a loss at Kadoka.  He's got all the tools to be a solid collegiate player but lacks experience against tougher competition and foot speed is a concern.  He's 6'7", strong and athletic and needs to improve his outside shooting to be a solid potential 3 man in college.  He'll get the most accolades in the junior class and it's deserving but still he's stuck in Faith where the competition is limited.  He's potentially could be as good as Tveidt and Cordova.

Louie Krogman is only a soph but the SDSU staff is extremely interested in landing him in the 08 class.  He is and will continue to be the #1 player in that class as he continues to score a ton of points.  Two 40 pt games at the start of the season followed by 19 at Kadoka have him off on the right foot again.  Louie is a shooter and isn't afraid to put it up anytime he's accross half court.  He's only about 6'0 tall but has a knack for scoring.  Many have compared him to Eric Kline, I for one think that is a stretch but he is only a Soph.  He is a ways off from verballing or signing but expect SDSU to continue to pursue him hard.

Others on their short list of SD HS Athletes:

Derek DeZeeuw -- Brandon Valley 6'7"
Sam Williard -- 6'8" Pierre -- Could be the sleeper in the 07 class and one considered a "horse" when the fall of 06 rolls around.
                            Nathan Truex -- 6'8"  Sioux Falls O'Gorman

Got an opportunity to see Cordova play over the holidays against Moorhead,MN. He didn't play well in the first half, but came on to help Roosevelt pull out the win in the second half. It's difficult when you have constant double teams, but he showed in the second half his inside and outside versatility. Another guy for Roosevelt who showed some quickness on both the defensive and offensive end and the ability to rebound and get to the basket is Emmanuel Yuyada. A 6'2 Junior who I believe is an immigrant from Africa showed some talent and if he continues to improve might garner some interest from area colleges. If he continues to fill out and would add another inch or two and could hook up with an AAU team I think Emmanuel will get noticed.
