Montana apologizes for scoring error, Big Sky to review
All I can say is WOW. Anyone remember anything even remotely similar from the old NCC days?
HELENA, Mont. (AP) -- The University of Montana apologized Thursday for a scoring error in a game a day earlier against Sacramento State that took a point away from the Hornets because the scoreboard did not agree with the official book.
"After reviewing Wednesday night's game film with members of my staff, I would like to apologize on behalf of UM Athletics for a critical scoring error that occurred late in the contest," Montana athletic director Jim O'Day wrote in a letter to Sacramento State athletic director Terry Wanless and coach Jerome Jenkins.
"While an apology does not rectify the existing problem, I can only tell you we are reviewing with our scorers the duties and responsibilities," in the NCAA rules manual, O'Day wrote.
A point was subtracted from Sacramento State with 1:57 remaining, changing the score to 75-69 in favor of Montana. The error led to Sacramento State using different strategy after Clark Woods hit a 3-pointer with 11 seconds remaining that cut Montana's lead to 80-79.
The Hornets fouled Kevin Criswell to stop the clock. Criswell, who finished with 28 points, made four free throws in the final 9.6 seconds.
