  • Nice article by Stu....

Today on the front page. I have to admit I wasn't that thrilled to see him get the front page even though Terry V is thee Jackrabbit expert at the Argus, but I understand Stu is the verteran and the Argus thinks everyone wants to hear from him.

Anywhoo....it was all positive article, which is exactly what it should be the day after such a historic win. Parts of the article created goosebumps and there were some great quotes I'll post later. Writing articles like this probably makes Stu squirm more than the ones where he knows he'll irk people b/c I think he's a guy who thinks writing an article like this is viewed as sucking up.

Actually, I think Stu has quite a bit of respect for the women and AJ.

Mostly, he takes pot shots at Nagy & the MBB team.

Everything else (that the Summit ain't the ACC, that USD is not -that- much worse than SDSU, etc.) is pretty tough to argue with.

But man alive, get him started on Nagy, and just watch him go off the tracks.... I wonder if Nagy backed over his toes after a ball game or something....

No one in their right mind could not be impressed with the Lady Jacks. Stu giving you goose bumps is his descriptive writing -- I know others disagree with me but I love his writing style.

First, I agree, it was a great story and well written and I give Stu credit for that. It was 99.8% positive, but you could tell he just couldn't resist bringing the men's team into the story...reread the story...there it is about 10 paragraphs from the end:

"Unlike Monday night, when the Jackrabbit men disappointed a near-sellout crowd by getting routed by Oakland in the semifinals, the gals gave folks reason to cheer."

Was our crowd disappointed. Sure. But he could have just as easily (if he felt it necessary to throw it in, completely out of context), have mentioned how the crowd had responded the same way as in the women's game, to the thrilling win by the men over the #2 seed in the tournament in its first game. Well, of course, Stu would never do that.

BTW, the Jacks are now not winless on the road against a Summit League opponent!

          SUPERBUNNY:
All I know is there are NO MORE ROAD GAMES THIS YEAR!

          rcjacks:
Well, it looks like we'll have to sit for another year with no wins on the road in the conference, but here's to hoping we can pull an upset at the Summit Tourney next weekend. It'll be tough, but we'll have more of a home game advantage than any other team in the tournament.

          mitchellrabbit:
neither. its a neutral site, sort of

          JimmyJack:
I said "essentially" a home game. I'm quite aware the the Arena is not Frost.

          JimmyJack:
What makes a home game? Home fans. We'll have a bunch of fans there. In my mind, it's essentially a home game. Also, they guys will sleep in their own beds, eat at a familiar place, etc.
          rcjacks:
It is a neutral game, but let's be honest ... it is more of a home game for us than it is for the rest of the teams in the tourney.

          AugiejackFan:
The only road game left will be in the big dance as a 16 seed.

Everybody has an opinion...but since we had to travel out-of-town to get to the game, I say it is a road game. (But have to admit, it is probably more of a neutral court game, since we are not on the other team's home court...darn it!)

The guys spent Friday and Saturday night in Sioux Falls.

Who cares where the guys slept? Our win over ORU was not a road win.

I don't know why we have to convince ourselves of stuff that just isn't true. It was a neutral court game although we definitely had the advantage of having more fans there considering the proximity of the event to our campus.

We return a lot of our team for next year (which is a good thing) and will finally clear that hurdle of securing a road win.

                    Were you at the game?

I was, and I can tell you that for large stretches of that game, SDSU did not have any home-court support, and the ORU fans and Bison converts were the only ones to be heard.

If it was not a road game it sure as heck was not a home game either.

That's why the concept of "neutral site" was born . . .

The Sioux Falls Arena is, by NCAA rule, a neutral site . . . more than 50 miles from the SDSU campus, and less than three SDSU games played in the facility = neutral site. By rule. Go look it up.

                      Play on, everyone . . .
                      "I think we'll be OK"

Actually, I was also at the game. There were far more State fans than ORU fans at the game. Whose fault is it if the ORU fans were the only ones to be heard at the game? Answer: It is our, State fans', fault if the crowd didn't give the guys any kind of feel of a home-court advantage. We had had the crowd numbers, and we had the closest drive. We all need to get up and cheer a little louder.

Also, please see filbert's post about neutral court. The Arena was a neutral site, which I have been saying all along. The only qualification I have been saying is that our campus is only an hour's drive from the Arena, and Sioux Falls has a lot more State alumni than the rest of the Summit combined.

You cannot seriously believe/contend that the tourney win over ORU was a road game win. Do you?

zooropa, you wrote this in the cheerleader thread:

"Ahhhhh.... that would explain it. We were on the visitor's side and couldn't figure out what was going on.
And yeah, the wave and then the collapse was sort of the mascot highlight of the tournament.
I mean, granted, SDSU had home court, but shoot, those other mascots acted like they were afraid to venture more than 20 feet from the band.
BTW: I also liked it when the IUPUI Jaguar conducted the pep band. "

So are you now saying the Arena wasn't a "home court" for our Jacks? Why the change in positions?

does it really matter if it was home, away or neutral? the season is over. personally the road summit losing streak doesnt mean crap to me. they won on the road at iowa st. if they had been blown out on the road all season then it might not look so good. but with the close losses, i dont care. what importance does this have on the season. why are we looking at the road record so much instead of looking at how well we did at home in the summit? plus the fact that we now have beaten every summit team, since we joined, except ndsu. im more of a "i cant wait till next year" type person. i wasnt saying that last spring but i am now. and i cant wait till august when i can buy my all session summit tickets and next november when the season starts. its gonna be a good one for sdsu and coach nagy.

I agree ... see my earlier post in this thread where I stated I was excited about our team (at least most of the guys return) returning next year and overcoming this Summit road game hurdle.
