Re: Semi-Final Game Thread: Jacks vs. Oakland

Well I have to say I was suprised to see such an outcome last night. Two close games in the regular season, albeit one was because of a 15-3pointer night and they beat the Jacks silly for 25 minutes of the other game. The Oakland perimeter defense isn't that great, the Jacks just could not buy a bucket outside of 15'. I would bet that you could count on one hand the number of baskets outside of that window until about 5 minutes to go.

I was suprised to see Kangas that healthy. It looked like he might be favoring the ankle a little in warmups, but that may be how he shoots. Jones was the key last night though. His floor vision is great and his quickness is so tough to stop. The back to back threes were just the beginning of the end.

I think the AC vs. Benson battle the next two years is going to be a fun one to watch. The intimidation of Benson's long body vs. AC using his muscle to beat him down the lane.

The question I would like someone to convince me of now is who to cheer for tonight. NDSU, who I swore on Saturday I would not cheer for again after the guys sitting around me and their arrogance plus the choke sign prick. And then their fans chanting at the end of their game last night "we want Oakland". Or should I cheer for Oakland and their pep band who is really wearing thin on my patience followed up by their chant of "This is our house" at the end last night. Whew, that's a doozy.

Welcome to being in a conference again. That sort of thing happens. It'll be our turn soon enough.

That is a hard decision. I would vote to cheer for NDSU. We have a good rivalry with them so far and have been in a conference for them for a long time. Every team has a few bad apple fans. Don't let a couple of them ruin it for you. I'm sure their fans didn't want any part of SDSU in their home state because they knew it was a good possibility they could get beat by us.

As for the Oakland pep band, that would have really gotten on my nerves. I no way would that be acceptible to me for them to chant that in any opponents arena. Even though it was a "neutral" court, it was still essentially our house.

NDSU all the way for me. Transition ties are part of it, but really want to see their seniors make the dance and even win a game.

Both teams in tonight's final are senior-heavy teams. Anyone think that is a coincidence?
As for the matter of which team to cheer for, here's one thought on the Big Picture: Stick with the newcomers and Dakotas. Forget the petty and small minds whose idea of discourse is choke signs and name-calling.

Let me add some more to it. Those same folks we also on Casey all night last night. Personally, I found their behavior to be much more appalling than anything Casey was involved in.

They're not fans, not in any definition of the word.

That's part of college basketball, though. Mess up off the court, be prepared to hear about it on the court.

Whether or not you feel he actually messed up doesn't matter. That's just part of the game.

Let me add though, that I have no idea what they were saying. Some stuff is obviously out of line (race, ect.) but if it was cleverly done, nothing wrong with it.

Looks like Oakland is continuing what they were doing last night. The are playing just like they did last night. Guess the Jacks aren't so bad after all.
Go Big! Go Blue! Go Jacks!

No, no, no, Valley . . . it's all Nagy's fault. NDSU should fire him.

                        Oh, wait . . .

                          Fan is short for fanatic.

Great defensive scheme by the Oakland coach, deny the perimeter pass, deny the perimeter shot, give up some inside paint shots. I could hear the NDSU coaches saying their praises on his plan.

People have overlooked the fact that SDSU held Oakland to 7 for a sizable chunk of the first half.

Despite the 'great strategy' of Greg Kampe, SDSU was doing what they had to do to stay in the game.

What sunk the Jacks was not some master plan of Kampe's. It was their failure to hold together after Oakland put together a run.

The Jacks, I'm sorry, are not so absent in talent that Kampe's strategy could be forced on them.

Had the Jacks remained collected, they would've gotten shots to fall, they would've found seams to exploit.
