I didn't ever make mention that this loss or any loss for that matter was Kai's fault.

To me it came down to rebounding. When we were doing it well we were closing the gap and taking a lead then we stopped and we lost.

We'll just agree to disagree then. Most of the Summit League teams don't have players who are the athletic matches of Dale Moss, Kai Williams, and Anthony Cordova. NDSU, Oakland, Oral Roberts have superior athletes. The rest, don't.

I'll stick to my judgment that what we lack isn't athletic ability, it's attitude.

Wow, this thread went in a bad direction quickly...

I think it's fair to say that no one is more disappointed with tonight's loss than the guys in our locker room out in SLO. Disappointing loss, of course, but we've got a couple more road games (lets get that first road win and then a second) and then the conference tournament, anything can happen. I seem to remember some of the same posters who are the downest now being downers in the preseason thread too, being downers after the SWMSU game, making comments like we wouldn't win 10 games, wouldn't make the tourny, etc. Talk about glass half empty thinking...

Kai has had some great games as a Jackrabbit, and he has had some stinkers too. We are a better team because he is on our roster. You could say the same about every player on our current roster, and I would be willing to bet my house that if you look at the list of the best 25 players in SDSU history you could say the same thing about them, too.

How people post negative comments about a player when he scores 19 is beyond me...

The bigger question to me than losing a tight one at the end is how did we ever come in so flat? Down 21-3 is a tough hole to crawl out of, the fact that they did is great, but darn, that made it tough tonight.

Coach Nagy sounded really down in the post-game. But by the end of the spot he was talking about how things WILL get changed before ORU.

I think it's entirely possible that four, perhaps five of the best players ever to come through SDSU are on this team: Kai, Cordova, Moss, Garrett Callahan, and maybe Clint Sargent, if he ever figures out how to play defense.

That's what makes the team's current ongoing struggles that much more aggravating.

Yeah, they don't have a 6'10" horse of a post player. Most teams don't. They have, on paper, the surrounding cast, however.

It's past time these guys stopped letting things happen to them on the court, and started making things happen for them instead.

It's an attitude adjustment. The talent is there to be a reasonably successful low-mid-major team. The attitude isn't there, yet.

My proof is that they can do it at home--they can beat an athletically superior Oakland team in Frost--but lose to athletically inferior teams like UMKC on the road.

                  That's attitude, not ability.

But also, I try to remember that they're STILL a very young team. Attitude comes with experience.

                    Hold on there fella.

I'm not saying that's what needs to happen to get Kai to play a bit more consistently (personally I think he has shown a ton of toughness at times this year).

BUT... Isn't it the coaches job to get his players to perform? If you have a player as talented as Kai and he isn't performing the way you want him to, shouldn't you try to motivate him? And if the first method of motivation doesn't work, try a different method? And if that doesn't work, try a third?

The reality is that not everyone responds well to yelling and foot stomping (again, not saying that's what is going on here), and that goes for whether you are an all conference athlete or a janitor. If what you are doing isn't working, it doesn't always mean someone else needs to change...

When did Sargent become the poor defender of the team? I don't think the stats have gotten much better since he's been out have they? That's the second time you've went out of your way to reference it.

I don't know that we have anyone on the team that is an above average defender, at least not consistently.

Pretty decent post. I will take exception for singling out Clint's defense, again. Theres Nobody that has played very good defense this year, so i wouldn't single out the player that hasn't even played the last 4 games.

We need to be realistic..........4 or 5 of the best players to come out of SDSU? Come on, we're 0-16 in conference road games and just lost to one of the worst home teams in the country. That being said, the tourney is in SF and who knows what could happen.

And why is it after every game, we hear the same thing.......how things will be different next game, but they never are. Not negative, but being realistic.

Granted. Back to the entire attitude thing. Playing defense is an attitude, and these guys just don't seem to have it. They need to get meaner--more of an "it's my basketball, give it back to me--NOW!" attitude. All of the players need to adopt more of that attitude.

Agree with this. This team has talent, but no way 4 or 5 of the best players in SDSU history.
