The team will be very different next year, but there is still a lot of talent coming back. Although not starting, alot of the underclassmen have put in a lot of meaningful minutes in big games. I think playing behind Woodside, Winks, Nelson, and Moorman will actually help our younger players as they step in to more important roles next year. We'll just reload.

The experience advantage definately will head south next year though in this rivalry.
This is where Saul Phillips earns his salary, no doubt about that. Freddy Coleman got some buckets last night including a dunk so we have not heard the last of him.

Coleman is still intriguing because he is a great athlete. He probably has some similarities to Dale Moss, but Moss impressed me last night with his progress as a player. Coleman still gets in trouble at times by playing out of control.

I think the Jacks really missed Sargent last night. It appeared to me that no one in the SDSU lineup except Garrett Callahan had any interest in taking an outside shot. It made NDSU's defensive task much simpler.

Looking at some of the 'down and perpetually out' assumptions about SDSU MBB on the NDSU board, I think there's going to be some of the same head scratching and general inability to explain that there was this past fall....

The outside shot is a problem with SDSU's team. Garrett and Clint are pure shooters. Michael, Griffan and Kai are the next best outside shooters. I was hoping that Griffan would join Garrett and Clint. Griffan has had a couple solid games. I think if SDSU and NDSU meet in SF, it will be a different game. You can't go on the road to the best team in the conference missing one of your top 2 shooters(this year). SDSU just doesn't have enough depth, yet.

            Problem is....They're all SENIORS.

I agree with MD in one of his previous posts, I would love to see another NDSU/SDSU matchup in SF. I'm just not sure at this point that SDSU is the team that deserves to keep NDSU and it's "Fab Four" out of the dance if that were to happen.

Don't get me wrong, if it happens I'll be one of the first out on the court, but on the same token, I will feel a bit of "what if" in regards to what NDSU might be able to do in the dance if they are able to make it.

            Go Jacks!!
If I was going to call them a 4 man team, I'd include Tviet instead of Mooreman. He lit us up at home last year and is a solid player. I'm not saying Mooreman isn't good but I'd put him 5th. Still the big 3 will be gone next year.

              FALL 2009 NDSU:

Drew Lundberg (UNI Transfer) or Zastrow (wisc #6 recruit)
              Josh Vaughn (Mike Felt)
              Twiedt
              Coleman
              Flowers. (Nagle sioux city kid)

Now, Im in NO WAY comparing them to this years team, but with the summit, I can easily see a #2,3,4 seed in the summit tourney.

SDSU will be much improved next year and I imagine fight for a #4, #5 seed.

You've got to be kidding me, you expect a bunch of people that didn't see a lot of playing time to take you guys to a 2 seed? But SDSU is going to be much improved and only get a 4?? You are so delusional

I think Carlson will start over Coleman. Here's who I see starting...

                  PG: Lundberg, 6'2 junior
                  SG: Vaughn, 6'3 senior
                  SF: Carlson, 6'6 sophomore
                  PF: Tveidt, 6'7 junior
                  C: Flowers, 6'7 senior

Obviosly the Bison will be down talent wise but we'll have plenty left anyways to make some waves in the conference. I'm thinking middle of the pack type (4-6 place) finishes next year for both Dakota schools.

"Nagle" is actually spelled Nagel and he's from Fort Dodge, not Sioux City. I'm glad to see you have wonderful knowledge of your players.....

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I believe Lundberg was a walk-on at UNI. He transferred to NDSU and they gave him a scholarship. The only reason Lundberg left UNI was because he was not good enough for a scholarship at UNI and he knew he would not crack the starting line-up.

But apparently he is good enough for NDSU to give him a scholarship and start. If NDSU does not have anyone on their roster that can put Lundberg on the bench, then it will be a long season next year for the Bison.

Also looking at your line up for next year, to me the best player on that list is Tviedt. He is one that SDSU let slip away. You have him listed as a Power Forward? I think he would be better suited as a SF. I would also take Cordova over Flowers, he is better and younger. I hope Davis is healthy next year, that would be huge for SDSU.

Well in any event, best of luck next year and enjoy this year.

Edit: Oh I forgot one other point. Felt chose NDSU over SDSU because he knew that he had a better chance of playing right away. That should tell you what he thinks about the future guard play at NDSU.

Tveidt will play a similar role as he did this year, he is listed as a four but plays more like SF. Carlson will be more of an actual four offensively.

As for Lundberg, how many players on your team would be a walk on at UNI after high school? Basically every last one of them, so I don't even understand that point. I don't know what to expect from the kid but I'd be careful bashing a kid just because he isn't good enough to start for one of the best teams in the MVC.

Lundberg also had mono his first year at UNI.

My point is that I just don't get too excited about transfers. If they don't pan out somewhere else, then they probably won't pan out at the new place either. I would rather give a scholly to a kid out of high school that might pan out than give one to a two year player that did not play much at UNI. It would be one thing if he was transferring from a Big Ten school, but walk ons at MVC schools are not going to be great players in the Summit League.

If a QB walked on at UNI and after two years still did not have a scholarship and transferred to NDSU, would you get excited about that? I know I would not.

Personally I think the Zastrow and Felt kid have more potential than Lundgren.

I'm excited because he has been playing well at practice, and while practice doesn't mean much he is going against Ben Woodside. I don't know what happened at UNI besides he was forced to be thrown into the fire as a true freshmen and had mono.

If Lundberg has struggled at UNI for a few years I could see what you are saying but a true freshmen struggling in the MVC doesn't necessarily make him a bad player.

Time to give it up folks...nobody knows how any of these players (except Tviedt) are going to play next year...or how they stack up against other teams, including the Jacks. How could you tell, since the four seniors played most of the time in most of the games.

We're pretty comfortable as to where the Jacks are going to be next winter, and if the Bison think there ready to reload, let 'em think that way. Proof will be on the court next year. Time to say bye, bye to this thread (for me at least!)
