What happened at the end of the Oakland men's game? The Oakland coach shook a few hands and then ran off the court and some sort of altercation occurred just outside the court. It appeared to me the Oakland coach "bumped" someone -- was it an assistant AD? and that a couple UPD officers trotted up.

    Anyone have the facts?

He was going after the officials and Mark or Mike Burgers (assistant AD) stepped in front of him, hence the "bump". I guess you could say the Oakland coach was a little unhappy about some of the calls in the second half and OT. I'm not sure which one of the Burgers it was, I just don't remember what I was told last night.

My source is a reliable one, not someone who would embellish. Now, I have no idea what the Oakland coach wanted but I could guess.

The Oakland coach was a joke all night. We were on him in the student section for his antics. I have never heard so many F-bombs taking place over little stupid things. What a joke. He must not be the recruiter because I find it hard to believe anyone would want to play with him. He has been at Oakland for 25 years right? Wow! is all I have to say. What a terrible sport and a terrible coach. At the end of regulation and in overtime if he had spent more time coaching and less time barking at the refs maybe they could have pulled it out. The incident at the end of the game was just icing on the cake. What a scumbag and I can't wait till he comes back to Frost again or maybe we will have to give him a treat in Sioux Falls next month!

Not to defend the coaches behavior, but coaching is pressured and emotional. I am sure by Monday, he will be on the telephone apologizing to a few people at the Summit League office, even Dr. Hellickson will be on that list. This might not be good for his career, as why to we hire officals to begin with?

Do any of you remember Butch Raymond, now the commissioner of the NSIC? When he was coaching for St. Cloud State he punched an official. That just about landed him a night's stay at the Brookings jail.

At one point,he wasted a entire timeout yelling at an official. It's not the officials fault your team choked at the free throw line, coach.

Kampe is not used to officials calling games against his team. When at OU the refs seem to call it against the visitors, intimidation by Kampe? When they call against him , he blows up.

Yeah good old Butch. Apparently he reformed enough to become the NSIC commissioner. I wonder how would handle the guy from Oakland?

I think our representatives to the SUmmit League should not be silent about this guy when they go to the conference meetings. This is not how it should work in terms of coaches and relations with officals before or after the game. I think if the other schools support the commish Douple, then guys like Kampe could be reined in. If he is not reined in, then other coaches are going to be just as blatant in their behavior. It will soon become, that no one will want to officate in the Summit League.

The officals should be allowed to call them as they see without intimidation. My gut impression last year was that NDSU and SDSU did not understand what the others have been pulling for years in working the officals. Its wrong and its going to wreck the sport if the administators do not come together and lockstep in support of a good officating for all legue games, and coaches need to be held accountable for their behavior.

It was Mike Burgers. He just stepped in front of him and the Coach asked him who the F are you.

Guy sitting next to me remarked that he couldn't believe that while his player was down injured, he spent the entire time chewing the ref out. I remembered a time way back when a similar thing happened in the old Frost setup while we were sitting under the basket. Can't remember the coach, pretty sure the ref was Willie Sanchez. As the coach starts laying into him, the ref looks at him and says I'm giving you 20 seconds and at 21 you get a T. Coach looks at his watch, chews for approximately 19 seconds, goes over and makes sure the trainers have everything under control. A very fine job of controlling the game without influencing it; of course the ref was respected by the coach before that incident and probably more so after it.

Kampe was in rare form for the Bison on game on Thursday, dropping f bombs and yelling at anyone within a 10 feet radius of him. He especially gave it to Jones their pg, just relentless.

The student section even started a "Chew them out!" chant during one of his timeouts, which got his attention.

That said, he was pretty calm once the game ended.

My memory is a little fuzzy, but didn't Kampe pull the same sort of routine last year at Frost, chasing down officials after the game? Might have been a different team's coach, but I seem to remember it was him.

Kampe's a very competitive guy. He's won a lot of games at Oakland. I would note he has publicly defended Coach Nagy against his critics, saying the Jacks were becoming a scary team and Coach Nagy is doing a great job. Maybe it's easier to be magnanimous about Coach Nagy when Nagy wasn't beating him.

He was obviously out of line here, but I try to avoid judging people by what they do in their worst moments.
