  • Mid Major in the Final Four

How about George Mason, from the Colonial Athletic Association going to the Final Four!  Kinda makes you wonder if Big Jake or Mav #1 have been on their boards telling them that they should be in D-II becasue they are never going to have a chance against the Big Boys like Michigan State, North Carolina, or UConn .  .  . oh wait they beat them all along with fellow Mid-Major Wichita State to get where they are.

I suppose it's too much to hope for that Jim Nantz and Billy Packer will choke on their dissing of mid-majors during the selection show where the brackets were announced.

All I can say is Hofstra should have been in and Syracuse should have been out.

        Didn't Syracuse win the conference?

Re: Mid Major in the Final Four

Syracuse did win the Big East Tourney, but the Head Coach, Jim Boehiem was disrespecting Mid-Majors in an interview I saw. He basically said that Mid-Majors can win occasionally against Major Conferences, but could not sustain a winning record playing in a Major Conference game after game.

In short, he was saying that Mid-Majors should only get in if they win their conference tourney and should not be considered for at large bids. All of the at large bids should go to Major Conferences. That is B. S. Syracuse was on the bubble until they ran the table in the Big East tourney and won an auto bid. JB thought it was unfair that Syracuse had to win their tourney to get into the Big Dance.

I'm really not a big Jim Boehiem fan anyway, but these statements really soured me. To me the Mid-Majors make the tourney interesting the first two weeks. I will be rooting on George Mason.

George Mason doesn't have a player over 6'7 which makes it that much more impressive in my opinion.

Yeah, you're right . . . I was thinking of the obscenely high seed Syracuse got, soley on the basis of Gerry MacNamara getting hot and running the table at the Big East Tournament. No way they were a 5 seed, as Texas A&M quickly proved.

To think that the Big Ten got 6 teams into the tourney but not one out of the six made the Sweet 16. I have to smile every time I think of that. Next year I would doubt that 6 would be their number.
