Regardless, best wishes on your remaining schedule. It would be nice to have Sioux Falls filled with SDSU fans for the tournament. Best wishes.

Jacks and Bison have come a heck of a long way in transition if you compare either program to this contemporaenous transitioner.
N.J.I.T broke a 51-game, nearly two-year losing streak last night: http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/28782124/ Some pretty bad East Coast teams had been routinely pounding them by 20- or 30-points.

Go Jacks, there may be no more important game this regular season.

The weird thing is, I actually agree with you. After we get beat (if we do) I really think everyone will go for the team we hate the most and pull for NDSU

Not me. I'll be curious how they do, but that's about it.

I'm far more curious what will happen if SDSU consistently puts forth better teams than NDSU in football and WBB, and if the MBB programs end up on similar footing.

                Why?

Because I think the collegiality of this rivalry is based on a certain assumed superiority of NDSU by NDSU fans. If the balance tilts in SDSU's favor (e.g. three consecutive marker victories, defeating NDSU in the MBB tournament next year, continued distant second status for NDSU WBB), I'm wondering if we may see more nastiness from NDSU partisans.

Already there was some nastiness on the Bisonville board over SDSU nabbing that AF transfer in a position where the Bison are presently quite weak. Before that, there was some nastiness about the Jacks' WBB rankings being mentioned on that board.

Others have mentioned a sort of 'kid brother' mentality that seems to exist toward the Jacks among some NDSU administrators, fans, and even players.

You had, for instance, an unnamed source asserting that NDSU's past TWO recuriting classes in WBB were better than SDSU's (as in this year's freshmen and next year's).... You also had the NDSU WSOC program expecting to beat SDSU----or at least figuring they had 'a pretty good shot at it.'

I suppose it's thread drift, but then again, so's the recipe for a Brooklyn Hooker (a drink, I assume, that is ordered only in order to say that one has ordered it)

all boards have their nastiness and nasty posters. i dont read bisonville that often but went over after i read your post. i didnt really see anything nasty. no different than the way we post over here. i'll still be cheering for them in the games they play unless they play the jacks. im just hoping none of their nasty posters are drunk and sitting by me.

I completely agree. The rivalry isn't too hot yet, but that is because most NDSU fans still don't see us as equals. If we start to continually beat them in football (which is looking possible) and we beat them in WBB (which is inevitable) and our MBB team gets back on track, I don't see our rivalry being as "friendly" as it has been.

And I, for one, am glad. I'm tired of all the Bison patting on the back. I hope we beat them tonight and that they lose every game from here on out.
Go Big, Go Blue, Go Jacks!

Remember the whining over on their board after the Marker game this year? Am I wrong or was a lot of it along the lines of, "can't be they beat us fair and square twice in a row, gotta be the refs/luck/we make dumb mistakes/ etc., etc." Lots of times only a reluctant they beat us fair and square. Heck (and this might have been last year) but I recall a thread blaming JACKS' strategy of returning punts.
I'm with this post, and rep points coming at ya. Friendly rivalries are for siblings. Jacks are nobody's little brother.

You are right, we don't have anyone complaining about referees, bad offensive calls, bad out of bounds calls, bad lighting, bad travel problems, bad injuries, bad weather conditions. We never cry after a loss.

Never said we didn't. Every fan base has that. But correct me if I'm wrong, does anyone on our board assume Jacks should be beating them just because... well, we are SDSU. I'm not talking about a few years of single sports dominance; they come and go, and I dare say there will be a day when their women will be better than ours. I was seconding the overall paternalistic attitude alluded to by an earlier rival. Good rivalries go, "well, you got us this time. But we're not giving up." Some Bison fans always have that attitude, including our friends who post civilly here. But there was a ton of commentary on their board after the game that simply didn't give us equal credit in the rivalry. That was the point.

Being good at losing is for losers, I always say. Also, why should it bother anyone if somebody is a little upset about not winning???

I spend a lot of time in Fargo, and there are some very decent people who follow NDSU and are proud of their institution as much as you and I are of SDSU. What I have noticed about NDSU fans is that they respect you more, when you win than when we lose and lose big time.

I go back to the Wayne Haensel era to support my point, and I not putting a former coach down, but rather referencing it as a low point in our financial resources. D2 allowed 45 scholies, and SDSU maybe funded 35 or so and NDSU funded all 45, plus had all kinds of goode equeipment. NDSU did not seem to respect SDSU much during that period of time.

I made the mistake of going to a NDSU-SDSU game in 1987, when we got our arses handed to us in the first half. It was not a fun game to be at especially being amoungst students. SDSU did have much respect, until 1993 when Mike Daly team beat them in CAS. Catchem I am sure remembers that game.

So if we keep winning, I think we can only gain more respect.
