    Re: Southern Utah

After looking at our stats, as a team SDSU could have been further down the road and won the close ones with better defense. Back in 2002-03 and 2003-04, SDSU shot as a team about 47 percent both seasons, but they held the opponents to 40 and 42 percent, plus won over 20 games for each season. This year SUU shot 59 per cent and we even allowed Upper Iowa to shot 50 percent. Also when we won, the percentage of the opponent was less often as low as 35%. If you go to the offical site for stats, and look what the opponent shot, we find some interesting per centages. Iowa State shot about 35 against us. To hang it all on defense or the lack thereof, might be a stretch, but the shooting percentages of the opponents don't lie either. I think if our guys step up more on defense, we will be in the tourney in SF.

Right now its kind of hard to tell what is going on, perhaps some of the guys are trying to hard, as Nagy mentioned a great deal of touching opposing and maybe grabbing jerseys gave SDSU a lot of fouls especially when the crew was calling them close. So its a work in progress, and I think we are progressing and a few more defensive stops will win us the close games.

Two blowout wins at home, two agonizing losses on the road. An almost senior-free team. Things ARE getting better and I'm usually a realistic pessimist.

What's the point with the fouls? Nidaros' post was regarding the difference in free throw shooting and had nothing to do with the total amount of fouls. I'm taking for granted SDSU had the 24. So with Clint, Payton, Griffan, and AC all fouling out, they accounted for 20 of the 24. In other words, the other players for SDSU committed only 4 fouls.

It's going to be hard to get in the conference tourney now, but it's still do-able. The Jacks will have to pick up a surprise win or two as well as win a couple of toss-up games. The home schedule is favorable. Keep after it, Jacks. You're close.

Sometimes you can analyze things to death and this seems to be the case with the SUU game. SUU shot 59.4 pct to our 45. They go to the ft line 10 more times than SDSU, SDSU had 18 attempts, SUU had 28. SUU makes 23 and SDSU makes 10. So 23 of their 85 pts were put on the board when the clock was not running. Of SDSU's 18 ft, only 10 were made, so that did not help as SUU has 13 more of ft's than we have. SDSU did much better on the three pts garnering 12 3 pts while SUU made only 4. So comparing the three pts shots, SDSU got 8 pts more than SUU from the beyond the arc. If we subtract 13 from 8 the difference is 5 and equal to the final score difference.

I think defense or better defense would have won both the SUU and UMKC games and yes its tough to win on the road, but play the best defense you can and you will win. It happen all the time at the D2 level and I believe a better level of defense is played at D1, so its no doubt a weakness of the entire team, and one they are working on.
Now call me a panic nut or a witchhunter or a Nagy defender if you like, the facts are there in the score box.

Also SUU out rebounded us by 10 so there you have it. Time to move on.
    The fouls were 24-20

Road games are tough to win. So be it. If these are at home then we're definitely in for a dog fight. Win against SUU and UMKC at home later on in the schedule and we'll be right there at the end of the year.

No reason to worry yet. Take a chill pill. Relax Jacks. Just step on the bus gus.

Tell you what, folks, Nagy's players are displaying a fair bit more maturity than I'm seeing from some on this board.

when the season started, what was everyones goal? my goal was to be in the top 8, so we could play in the summit tourney. right now we are in 7th place. its tight but we are in it. 2 close losses on the road and so many have given up. i guess im an optimist and im also excited about the next two weekends at home. we cant give up just because we lose two close games on the road. losing on the road in college sports isnt new. have faith!!!!

Here is what you wrote after the IUPUI game

What a difference a week makes. This team is close and like I have been saying for a long time they are making progress. I think they will improve all the way to the Summit Tourney and will be even better next year. Call me a fan "with my head in the sand", but this team is much better then what we have had the past few seasons. Reason is they are still all around. Next year we don't lose anyone who is playing much and we add more. That is not a dig at this year's Sr. it is just how it is.
That is called doing your research and telling it like it is. Rep points to lake!
