    81-86 -- certainly respectable.

86-81 final, Jacks came back from 16 down, some letdowns, but a lot to work off from this. They never gave up, which is part of believing.
Get the second half of this road trip, go home, and get ready for the rest of the Summit schedule.

Not discrediting the Jacks effort tonight, but the 3's kept this close. Still, impressive outing.

Need to win at FW to keep the momentum going.

Jacks lose 86-81. Great comeback against a good team. I was impressed with the showing other than a few bad stretches we seem to always have.

Guys should hate to take the loss, but all things considered, they should feel alright about this performance. It'll be interesting to see what the Bison can do against this club.
            Go Jacks on Friday!

I agree...we really need to win on Friday against IPFW. Lack of D was a concern, we'll see what Nagy has to say about it. Giving up 86 points is not going to make him happy. I'm guessing we got beat on the boards but I haven't seen any numbers. 3pt shooting was really good but that was about it - Garrett had 7 3s and a natural 3pt play for 24 total, one shy of the school record. A lot of dumb turnovers too.

Cordova had 17, matching a career best for the 2nd game in a row.

              Griffan - 14 points...3 3 pointers.

              Kai - 12 points, Clint 12 points.

15 3 point FGs in all...a new school record. 15-30 from downtown...that's damn good!

              10-11 from the FT line.

Rebounds...Oakland 33, 30 for the Jacks. Led by Kai Williams with 7.

Perhaps a deeper team, definitely a taller team that plays with this much effort walks off the court a winner tonight.

Pace of this game definitely picked up in the second half. Much of the Jacks' defensive scorecard on this game can be attributed to size disadvantage down low, and a few stretches where we did not defend the 3 that well.
But given where we were in November, and given the fact that we were 16 points down at one point in this game, we hung in admirably. Progress gets measured many ways.

There big guy hurt us a lot.... there was that period early to midway through the second half that killed us, it seemed like we either gave up an easy bucket or an offensive rebound in every key defensive possession down the stretch.... shooting was good

                      Nagy's comments:

Gave up 53% shooting and got outrebounded.

This is just an offensive game and we aren't going to beat anyone playing that kind of game.

We didn't defend and rebound. It's amazing we only got beat by 5.

Big deal we didn't give up and bounced back...we still lost. I hope they are sick of hearing that.

We didn't have it tonight, we weren't very good, that's my assessment.

They have depth, but they slow it down and they should not score 80 points against us.

School record for 3s means nothing. We got our butts whipped. We were fully capable of winning this game, fully capable.

Game on Friday is going to be tough because NDSU whipped up on IPFW...they'll be ready to play and want redemption.

We can get any shot we want against their zone. Wide open 3s all night long. We didn't defend...their offense was better than our D.

We have to do a better job reading our scouting report, commit to our defense and getting stops.

We'll be better defensively. We aren't talented enough to play with Oakland and make the mistakes we made. 14 TOs but 10 in the first half. Way too many mistakes defensively. Too many mistakes, turnovers.

Way more experienced than we used to be but we still aren't playing any seniors.
As I expected, he wasn't happy with the defense. We gave up too many easy baskets, especially on big possessions when we needed a stop.

                        Nagy:
We gave up 53% shooting, got out-rebounded, not going to win, that's my assessment. Loose balls, we didn't get any of them. This was an offensive game, and we're not going to beat anybody in an offensive game. We didn't defend, we didn't rebound, it's amazing we got beat by five.

Big deal that we didn't give in--let's quit getting down 18 and let's defend like we did at Iowa State.

They have depth but they slow it down, just stay out there and grind it, but there's no way we can give up 80 points to this team and win.

The record for 3 pointers tells you the game isn't about offense--we just got our butts whipped tonight. We were fully capable of winning this game tonight--rebounding isn't about size it's about the size of your heart. Now we go play an even tougher game tomorrow night.

What Oakland works on is offense, they put the zone in there so they can stay in there. We could get any shot we wanted, we just didn't defend. Their offense was better than our defense today.

In the walkthrough, some of the kids acted like they'd never seen Oakland's offense before, and that concerned me.

I would expect we'd be better defensively against IPFW--we're not talented enough to make the mistakes we made today against Oakland and win. Too many mistakes defensively. We have to be super-vigilant on defense--too many turnovers.
                        "I think we'll be OK"

Heck, 5 points is what you spot the home team in a contest anyway.

There were definitely times where the Jacks collectively played beyond their individual talents--and if AJ's girls can take that to the bank, Nagy's guys should be able to figure out how to as well.

If we'd have won this game by five does anyone disagree that Nagy would have said precisely the same thing he said in the post-game interview? (i.e., harping on defense, mistakes, margin of error)

This is why this coach deserves to settle this ship. He's getting it there.

The snarky part of me says that we would've done a few of those things better if we won.

But yes, the impression I got from Nagy's post-game comments was that he sees a lot of room for improvement in a short, short-handed, and inexperienced team that only lost by 5 on the road to the pre-season conference favorite.

That's exactly why he's a good coach, and why he should continue to be the coach at SDSU.

Just got home from the game at Oakland. Jacks did a great job in my opinion coming back from 16 down. Just couldn't get over the hump again. Five Jacks in double figures for scoring. The Callahans, Sargeant, and even Kai were awesome tonight. Griffith Callahan is going to be a stud for the Jacks, the look of determination on his face all night was something to see.
One of the refs did the Oakland game last year and he was horsesht then, same tonight, called Kai for travelling before Kai even hit the floor, which should have been a foul on Oakland. This ref was making faces, talking to the Oakland money donators at the table along side the court. Made some bad calls on the Jacks again this year like last.
