The only thing worse than BHM's personal attack was a moderators decision to delete subsequent posts and close a thread. What part of your journalistic code of ethics does that fall under?

I believe that falls under the code - it's filbert's board and he can do whatever the heck he pleases with it.

awesome now we are being censored for sharing our opinions as SDSU Fans on an SDSU message board... first cowbells, then flags, now messages...hahaha

        Re: Censorship

        Fair question.

First, I'm not acting as a journalist. I do have a journalism degree but I practice law.

Second, I thought the thread went over the line and violated the stated purpose of this board.

I have referred this matter to the other moderators and I am sure we'll discuss it. I give great weight to filbert's call -- he set up the board -- and if he disagrees with my action, that's fine. I think it is possible to restore deleted posts.

I am concerned that we do not always take into account the potential for causing harm when posting critical comments on a fan message board.

I suggest you allow the moderators to discuss this matter further.

Post script: I took my action without prior consent from filbert.

I like Catch em's idea better JD. In other words, if you don't like the way its played take your toys and go home. Don't let the www hit you on the rear on your way out.

            Re: Censorship

As a journalist, I look at it like this: the mods are the editors and if they feel something controversial should be taken out of the paper, or message board in this case, they have every right to do so.

                Good move JackJD.

I appreciate being able to keep up to date using this board and have complete faith in the Moderators to run this ship as they see fit.

                Keep up the good work.

                  Re: Censorship

I trust the moderators and we all learned in government class, that calling out "Fire" in a crowed theater, when in fact there is not fire danger is not allowed under the first amendment, and maybe we need to be more careful about what we say here. Our student athletes have familes and they are people too, so I dont have a problem with the posts I made that were deleted. Our coaches, players and cheerleaders do not equal Brad Childress who is fair game in most Viking fans minds.

                    Re: Censorship

I'm assuming this was in reference to calling out Kai. The last post that I saw from BHM was completely in bounds, in my opinion. Unfortunately my opinion doesn't really count, but if it's the same post I read earlier today then I didn't see anything wrong with it. He was just being brutally honest.

It's possible this was in response to a quote that I DID NOT see. If so, the above statement is subject to change.

                      Re: Censorship

I guess I missed the stuff that happened over the last 2 days. I was at the game on Saturday night but didn't get on the computer on Sunday. I get on here on Monday and see that the ORU post is shut down. I guess if people were out of line already, it's for the best. I hope this doesn't cross the line about bringing up a closed thread(if it does sorry and I won't do it again).
I thought the offense was great(T.O., FG% and FT% just not 3pt FG%). The weak parts were defense and rebounding. That's not the norm for a Nagy coached team. That's all I'll write. I don't want to start anything.

                        Re: Censorship

I don't think there is any harm in having an opinion about the performance of a player or coach. Those who invest the most time and effort to the program often have the strongest feelings about it. There are plenty of venues to express those views. This venue is controlled by a select group of mods. Do they necessarily know what they are doing? I don't think that matters. If there is a concern about feelings getting hurt or things getting taken out of context the best thing is to minimize the potential harm.

Do I think there have been instances where the mods were a little to quick to pull a thread? Again, that doesn't matter. If I wanted a voice I'd petition to be a mod and I sure as hell don't want to do that.

We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.

Amen doc, and I sure am not volunteering to be a moderator either!! My thanks to those who are willing to do it; my thanks (a big one) to Filbert for creating this board and offering it to us as a place to discuss Jackrabbit athletics.

When the moderators (or owner) believes a post goes over the edge (wherever they think the edge is) they can do as they please with it...anybody who is upset over that has a very viable option...start your own fan board.

The mods have discussed and we're not going to undelete the deleted posts on the ORU game thread.

Just saw KELO-Land TV's report on the SDSU basketball teams. The subject of the report on the men was the lack of a true post player with Davis out for the season. The subject of the report on the women was the tremendous start and taking the 8-1 record to Williams Arena to face the 8-1 Gophers.

                            Go Jacks!
